Deleterious impact of obstructive sleep apnea on autonomic nervous system control during rapid‐eye‐movement sleep in adult type 1 diabetes

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, Volume 14, Issue 12, June 2026.
Abstract Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) with an apnea‐hypopnea index (AHI) ≥ 15/h increases the cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk in type 1 diabetes (T1D). Cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy (CAN) is a key driver of CVD in diabetes and could be increased by autonomic nervous system (ANS) dysfunction related to OSA.

Heart rate manipulation in dilated cardiomyopathy: Assessing the role of Ivabradine

open access: yesIndian Heart Journal, 2018
Background: Heart rate (HR) reduction is of benefit in chronic heart failure (HF). The effect of heart rate reduction using Ivabradine on various echocardiographic parameters in dilated cardiomyopathy has been less investigated.

Structure mirroring function: What's the ‘matter’ with the funny current?

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, Volume 604, Issue 9, Page 3513-3532, 1 May 2026.
Abstract figure legend The ‘funny’ (If) current of cardiac pacemaker cells has been first identified in the late 1970s as a major mechanism in the generation and control of cardiac pacemaking. Decades of studies have since described the properties of the funny current and of its molecular components, HCN channels, in the heart and brain, providing the ...

Inotropic Effects of Ivabradine in the Mammalian Heart

open access: yes, 2010
Ivabradine represents a novel heart-rate-lowering agent that acts on the sino-atrial node supposedly by selectively inhibiting the ‘funny’ current (If current).

The Thoracic Lymphatic Vasculature: Interorgan Strategies to Achieve an Optimal Tissue Function

open access: yesComprehensive Physiology, Volume 16, Issue 2, April 2026.
In the thorax, organ‐specific features such as stomata and submesothelial lacunae, pulmonary perivascular and peribronchial vessels, and subepicardial lymphatic network allow the thoracic lymphatics to perform as a dynamically regulated system able to exploit local mechanical forces and tissue‐specific architecture to maintain fluid and solute ...
