シラスの音響周波数特性の昼夜変動について考察した。音響散乱モデルは,昼間は鰾に空気が無いと仮定してストレートシリンダーモデル,夜間は鰾に空気が充満していると仮定して鰾共振モデルを使用した。周波数の組み合わせは,シラス漁業で用いられる周波数50kHzと200kHz,計量魚群探知機で用いられる周波数38kHzと120kHzの2組を採用した。結果,両組合せ(特に38kHzと120kHz)においてシラスの2周波間ターゲットストレングス(TS)の差は,昼間で大きく夜間でほとんど無いことが示された。従って,シラスの判別および音響調査は,明確な周波数差が現われかつ魚群が濃密である昼間が適していると判断された。
