Transcriptional regulation of the glial cell-specific JC virus by p53

open access: yes, 2018
The human polyomavirus JC virus is the etiologic agent of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML). As the JC virus early promoter directs cell-specific expression of the viral replication factor large T antigen, transcriptional regulation ...

High incidence of urinary JC virus excretion in nonimmunosuppressed older patients

open access: yes, 1990
Urine specimens from 120 patients attending urologic clinics were screened by blot hybridiza-tion for the presence of a polyomavirus DNA. Detected viral DNA was then identified as BK or JC by fine restriction enzyme analysis.

CSF-JC Virus PCR-Negative Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy Presenting with Visual loss (.pdf)

open access: yes, 2016
Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy (PML) is an infectious demyelinating disease of the brain caused by JC virus. Typically, the diagnosis of PML is established when JC virus DNA is detected in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of a susceptible ...

Frequency of JC Virus Appearance in the Urine of Post-Transplantation Patients

open access: yesCurrent Issues in Pharmacy and Medical Sciences, 2018
Polyomaviruses are common viruses that induce various infections in many mammalian species, including humans. The best-known viruses of this kind are BKV and JCV.

Burden and Correlates of Multiple Chronic Infections and Their Associations With Cancer Incidence in Chinese Adults: A Large Case‐Cohort Study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
While several oncogenic pathogens cause site‐specific cancers, uncertainties remain about many other chronic infections and combined pathogen effects, especially in non‐Western populations. Using a large case–cohort study nested within the China Kadoorie Biobank, the authors found that co‐infection was common, with a mean of 10 pathogens per individual.

Resource‐Adapted Triage Strategies for Women Testing HPV Positive With Self‐Collected Vaginal Samples in Cameroon

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
Although human papillomavirus (HPV) testing is recommended for cervical cancer screening in low‐ and middle‐income countries, optimal management of HPV‐positive women remains undetermined, particularly in resource‐limited settings. Here, using data from the 3T study involving women in Cameroon, the authors evaluated the ability of extended HPV ...

Decidual macrophage‐mediated ferroptosis in trophoblasts leads to recurrent spontaneous abortion

open access: yesiMeta, EarlyView.
Decidual macrophages from recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA) patients promote trophoblast ferroptosis and impair trophoblast cell function. Mechanistically, the CXCL2/NF‐κB/HMOX1 axis mediates this effect. Conversely, trophoblasts co‐cultured with RSA decidual macrophages induce pro‐inflammatory macrophage polarization through IL‐6/JAK2/STAT3 ...

Clinical periodontal diagnosis

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Periodontal diseases include pathological conditions elicited by the presence of bacterial biofilms leading to a host response. In the diagnostic process, clinical signs such as bleeding on probing, development of periodontal pockets and gingival recessions, furcation involvement and presence of radiographic bone loss should be assessed prior ...
