Cry1Ac toxin induces macrophage activation via ERK1/2, JNK and p38 mitogen-activated protein kinases
The International Journal of Biochemistry & Cell Biology, 2016The Cry1Ac toxin from Bacillus thuringiensis is used commercially as a bio-insecticide and is expressed in transgenic plants that are used for human and animal consumption. Although it was originally considered innocuous for mammals, the Cry1Ac toxin is not inert and has the ability to induce mucosal and systemic immunogenicity.

Abstract B cell antigen receptor (BCR)-induced apoptosis in the WEHI-231 B lymphoma cell line can be prevented by engaging CD40. We have used this cell line to investigate the role of mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinases in integrating BCR and CD40 signaling.

Effect of Ang III on JNK mitogen activated protein (MAP) kinase in Wistar rat VSMCs
The FASEB Journal, 2016Objective We investigated whether angiotensin (Ang) III induces JNK mitogen activated protein (MAP) kinase protein phosphorylation in isolated rat vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). Moreover, we compared its effect with Ang II. Background

Cantharidin is an active compound from blister beetles traditionally used for the treatment of cancer. It is known to exert its antitumor activity by inducing apoptosis in cancer cells. However, its signaling pathway still remains unclear. Therefore, we investigated the roles of the mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) and the tumor suppressor ...

A sequence of intermittent interruptions of oxygen supply (i.e., postconditioning, Postcon) at reoxygenation reduces oxidant-induced cardiomyocyte loss. This study tested the hypothesis that prevention of cardiomyocyte apoptosis by Postcon is mediated by mitogen-activated protein kinases pathways.

6-[3-(1-Adamantyl)]-4-hydroxyphenyl]-2-naphthalene carboxylic acid (CD437) is a novel retinoid which induces apoptosis in the retinoic acid-resistant HL-60R human leukemia cell line. CD437-mediated poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) cleavage and apoptosis of HL-60R cells does not require gene transcription or protein synthesis since it occurs in the ...

We have investigated the termination of agonist-stimulated mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase activity in EAhy926 cells by MAP kinase phosphatase-2 (MKP-2). In cells expressing either wild-type (WT) or catalytically inactive (CI)-MKP-2, there was no significant differences in TNFalpha-stimulated JNK or p38 MAP kinase activity, however hydrogen ...

Recent studies have demonstrated that palmitic acid (PA) could regulate endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) function (migration, proliferation, survival and angiogenesis) via various signal pathways, but the effect of PA on EPCs apoptosis and associated mechanisms are still elusive. The human EPCs were obtained by Ficoll density gradient centrifugation ...
