Die Untersuchung der menschlichen Kaliumkanalfamilie KCNQ im Modelltier Zebrafisch [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010

An Open‐Source Pipeline for Calcium Imaging and All‐Optical Physiology in Human Stem Cell‐Derived Neurons

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 26, 8 May 2026.
This work introduces an open‐source all‐optical platform for functional phenotyping of human stem cell‐derived neurons. The system integrates optogenetics, calcium imaging, automated acquisition, and analysis to resolve single‐cell and network activity, enabling longitudinal measurements, disease modeling, and pharmacological screening in preclinical ...

KCNQ gene expression in the murine vasculature

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2007
KCNQ2‐5 are considered to be only expressed by neurones. Ohya et al. (Circ Res., 92, –1023, 2003) showed that full length KCNQ1 and a C‐terminal truncated variant were expressed in murine portal vein (mPV), where it contributed to ...

KCNQ channel openers reverse depressive symptoms via an active resilience mechanism

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
Potassium channels in the ventral tegmental area are known to regulate resilience against stress-induced depression. Here, the authors show over expression of KCNQ3 channels in VTA dopaminergic neurons or treatment with KCNQ channel openers normalizes ...

GABAergic Neuron Activation in the RMTg‐VTA Pathway Modulates Dopaminergic Neuron Excitability and Social Stress Susceptibility in Male Mice

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 4, April 2026.
In susceptible mice, dopamine neurons in the VTA exhibit increased excitability along with upregulation of GABAA receptors. Administration of the GABAA receptor agonist muscimol reduces this neuronal hyperexcitability and reverses social avoidance behavior.

Activation of peripheral KCNQ channels relieves gout pain [PDF]

open access: yesPain, 2015
Intense inflammatory pain caused by urate crystals in joints and other tissues is a major symptom of gout. Among therapy drugs that lower urate, benzbromarone (BBR), an inhibitor of urate transporters, is widely used because it is well tolerated and highly effective. We demonstrate that BBR is also an activator of voltage-gated KCNQ potassium channels.

The function of KCNQ ion channels in pain and somatosensation

open access: yes, 2016

Visceral hyperalgesia induced by forebrain-specific suppression of native Kv7/KCNQ/M-current in mice

open access: yesMolecular Pain, 2011
Background Dysfunction of brain-gut interaction is thought to underlie visceral hypersensitivity which causes unexplained abdominal pain syndromes.

Activation of voltage-gated KCNQ/Kv7 channels by anticonvulsant retigabine attenuates mechanical allodynia of inflammatory temporomandibular joint in rats

open access: yesMolecular Pain, 2010
Background Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) are characterized by persistent orofacial pain and have diverse etiologic factors that are not well understood.
