Keratin 19 expression correlates with poor prognosis in breast cancer [PDF]
Breast cancer expression profiling has been used for determining biomarkers. Using gene expression profiles of 2,400 patients we identified keratin 19 (KRT19) as a highly deregulated gene in breast cancer. KRT19 expression is independent of patient race but correlates with disease grade, and ER, PR or HER2 expression.

HNRNPK is retained in the cytoplasm by Keratin 19 to stabilize target mRNAs [PDF]
Abstract Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein K (HNRNPK) regulates pre-mRNA processing and long non-coding RNA localization in the nucleus. It was previously shown that shuttling of HNRNPK to the cytoplasm promotes cell proliferation and cancer metastasis. However, the mechanism of HNRNPK cytoplasmic localization, its cytoplasmic RNA

Keratin 19, a Cancer Stem Cell Marker in Human Hepatocellular Carcinoma [PDF]
Abstract Purpose: Keratin 19 (K19) is a known marker of poor prognosis and invasion in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the relationship between K19 and cancer stem cells (CSCs) is unclear. Here, we determined whether K19 can be used as a new CSC marker and therapeutic target in HCC. Experimental Design:

An Integrative Bioinformatic Analysis for Keratinase Detection in Marine-Derived Streptomyces
Keratinases present promising biotechnological applications, due to their ability to degrade keratin. Streptomyces appears as one of the main sources of these enzymes, but complete genome sequences of keratinolytic bacteria are still limited.

Blackcurrant Extract with Phytoestrogen Activity Alleviates Hair Loss in Ovariectomized Rats
Ancocyanin-rich blackcurrant extract (BCE) has phytoestrogen activity; however, its effect on hair follicles is unknown. Additionally, hair loss is known to occur during menopause in women owing to decreased estrogen secretion.

The Tumor Markers Tpa, Tps, Tpa and Cyfra 21–1 React Differently with the Keratins 8, 18 and 19
The commercially available tumor marker tests TPA, TPS, TPA CYK and CYFRA 21–1 react with simple epithelium keratins. From clinical studies it can be deduced that the pattern of keratin recognition must be different for each of these tests.
