Profiling and initial validation of urinary microRNAs as biomarkers in IgA nephropathy [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2015
Background. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been found in virtually all body fluids and used successfully as biomarkers for various diseases. Evidence indicates that miRNAs have important roles in IgA nephropathy (IgAN), a major cause of renal failure.

Lightweight Framework for Automated Kidney Stone Detection using coronal CT images [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Kidney stone disease results in millions of annual visits to emergency departments in the United States. Computed tomography (CT) scans serve as the standard imaging modality for efficient detection of kidney stones. Various approaches utilizing convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have been proposed to implement automatic diagnosis of kidney stones ...

Polycystic Kidney Disease [PDF]

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 1989
The Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is a genetic disease which is characterized by the gradual emergence of cystic lesions in the kidneys, which replace the renal parenchyma causing deterioration of its function to stage 5. The PKD is one of the causes of Chronic Kidney Disease on renal replacement therapy (RRT).

Inhibition of acyl‐CoA synthetase long‐chain isozymes decreases multiple myeloma cell proliferation and causes mitochondrial dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Triacsin C inhibition of the acyl‐CoA synthetase long chain (ACSL) family decreases multiple myeloma cell survival, proliferation, mitochondrial respiration, and membrane potential. Made with Biorender.com. Multiple myeloma (MM) is an incurable cancer of plasma cells with a 5‐year survival rate of 59%.

A flow cytometry approach reveals heterogeneity in conventional subsets of murine renal mononuclear phagocytes

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Mononuclear phagocytes (MNPs) participate in inflammation and repair after kidney injury, reflecting their complex nature. Dissection into refined functional subunits has been challenging and would benefit understanding of renal pathologies.

Clinical significance of stratifying prostate cancer patients through specific circulating genes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We tested a specific panel of genes representative of luminal, neuroendocrine and stem‐like cells in the blood of prostate cancer patients, showing predictive value from diagnosis to late stages of disease. This approach allows monitoring of treatment responses and outcomes at specific time points in trajectories.
