Presensitization and kidney transplant failures [PDF]

open access: bronzePostgraduate Medical Journal, 1971
Summary Over 1000 kidney transplant patients were tested for cytotoxic antibodies before transplantation. It was found that patients with preformed antibodies had a significantly poorer outcome than those without antibodies in terms of clinical ranks and survival.

Cell therapy in kidney failure. [PDF]

open access: greenCytotechnology, 1998
Current therapy for acute renal failure continues to have an exceedingly high mortality rate, exceeding 50% even with dialytic or hemofiltrative support. Current renal replacement therapy in ARF only substitutes for filtration function of the kidney but not its cellular metabolic functions.

The Kidney in Congestive Heart Failure [PDF]

open access: bronzeCirculation, 1960
As a more detailed picture of the pathogenesis of salt and water retention in congestive heart failure evolves, it appears that increased tubular reabsorption of sodium occurs very early in heart disease, with further enhancement of the fluid accumulation as filtration rate decreases later in the disease process. Increase in sympathetic activity in the

Kidney failure in Samoa [PDF]

open access: yesThe Lancet Regional Health - Western Pacific, 2020
There is limited literature on kidney disease in the Pacific Region, despite it being recognised as a leading cause of death in some Pacific Island nations. Kidney replacement therapy is only available in a handful of Pacific Islands. This paper reports the epidemiology of haemodialysis patients in Samoa.Registry data from the National Kidney ...

Inhibition of calpain9 attenuates peritoneal dialysis-related peritoneal fibrosis

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2022
Aim: Peritoneal dialysis is a common renal replacement method for end-stage renal disease. Long-term peritoneal dialysis leads to peritoneal dialysis-related peritoneal fibrosis, which leads to a cessation of treatment.

Circular RNA circBNC2 inhibits epithelial cell G2-M arrest to prevent fibrotic maladaptive repair

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
G2/M arrest of epithelial cells leads to fibrosis with unclear mechanisms. This study identifies a protein-encoding circRNA, circBNC2, which inhibits epithelial cells G2/M arrest to prevent fibrotic maladaptive repair in damaged kidney and liver ...

Association of a Healthy Lifestyle, Life's Essential 8 Scores With Incident Macrovascular and Microvascular Disease Among Individuals With Type 2 Diabetes

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2023
Background The association of a healthy lifestyle with the prognosis of type 2 diabetes remains uncertain. We aimed to evaluate the associations of a healthy lifestyle and a higher American Heart Association's Life's Essential 8 score with incident ...

Kidney tubular epithelial cells control interstitial fibroblast fate by releasing TNFAIP8-encapsulated exosomes

open access: yesCell Death and Disease, 2023
Kidney fibrosis, characterized by the activation and expansion of the matrix-producing fibroblasts, is the common outcome of chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Matrix metalloproteinase-10 protects against acute kidney injury by augmenting epidermal growth factor receptor signaling

open access: yesCell Death and Disease, 2021
Matrix metalloproteinase-10 (MMP-10) is a zinc-dependent endopeptidase involved in regulating a wide range of biologic processes, such as apoptosis, cell proliferation, and tissue remodeling.

PTEN alleviates maladaptive repair of renal tubular epithelial cells by restoring CHMP2A-mediated phagosome closure

open access: yesCell Death and Disease, 2021
Phosphatase and Tensin Homolog on chromosome Ten (PTEN) has emerged as a key protein that governs the response to kidney injury. Notably, renal adaptive repair is important for preventing acute kidney injury (AKI) to chronic kidney disease (CKD ...
