Dimerization structures on the metallic and semiconducting fullerene tubules [PDF]

open access: yesPhys.Rev. B47 (1993) 16563-16569, 1992
The Kekule patterns are realized in the metallic tubules and chain-like distortions occur in the semiconducting tubules.

Superparamagnetic iron oxide polyacrylic acid coated γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles does not affect kidney function but causes acute effect on the cardiovascular function in healthy mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This study describes the distribution of intravenously injected polyacrylic acid (PAA) coated {\gamma}-Fe2O3 NPs (10 mg kg-1) at the organ, cellular and subcellular levels in healthy BALB/cJ mice and in parallel addresses the effects of NP injection on kidney function, blood pressure and vascular contractility.

THE BASE OF THE PROXIMAL CONVOLUTED TUBULE CELLS OF RAT KIDNEY [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Cell Biology, 1957
The three dimensional arrangement of the compartments on the base of proximal convoluted tubule cells of rat kidney is described. An extracellular basal labyrinth is found to be enclosed by these compartments. The compartments with their mitochondria and the basal labyrinth are regarded as forming a functional unit.

Phases and Transitions in Phantom Nematic Elastomer Membranes [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. E 71, 011802 (2005), 2004
Motivated by recently discovered unusual properties of bulk nematic elastomers, we study a phase diagram of liquid-crystalline polymerized phantom membranes, focusing on in-plane nematic order. We predict that such membranes should enerically exhibit five phases, distinguished by their conformational and in-plane orientational properties, namely ...

The Mechanism of Bicarbonate Reabsorption in the Proximal and Distal Tubules of the Kidney* [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Investigation, 1965
Considerable evidence (1-6) has been adduced to support the hypothesis that the reabsorption of filtered HC03 by the kidney is mediated by a single mechanism, operafive in both the proximal and distal portions of the nephron, which involves the secretion of cellular H hi exchange for luminal Na. The secreted H reacts with filtered HCO3 to form I-I CO3,

Mitochondrial and metabolic dysfunction in renal convoluted tubules of obese mice: protective role of melatonin. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Obesity is a common and complex health problem, which impacts crucial organs; it is also considered an independent risk factor for chronic kidney disease.

Anomalous elasticity in nematic and smectic elastomer tubule [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. E 78, 031704 (2008), 2008
We study anomalous elasticity in the tubule phases of nematic and smectic elastomer membranes, which are flat in one direction and crumpled in another. These phases share the same macroscopic symmetry properties including spontaneously-broken in-plane isotropy and hence belong to the same universality class.

Using a Supramolecular Approach to Engineer Modular Hydrogel Platforms for Culturing Protoplasts – from General Tissue Engineering to Cellular Agriculture

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Using supramolecular monomers, various hydrogel culture systems were formulated to culture protoplasts; including 2D, 2.5D, and 3D hydrogels. Depending on the culture platform, bioactive functionalization led to protoplast enlargement (2D and 2.5D) or plasmolysis (3D). This work shows the potential to modularly engineer synthetic platforms for cellular

Differential Expression Of Gap Junction mRNAs And Proteins In The Developing Murine Kidney And In Experimentally Induced Nephric Mesenchymes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
The expression of three gap junction (GJ) proteins, alpha-1 (Cx43), beta-1 (Cx32), and beta-2 (Cx26), and their transcripts were examined during the ontogeny of the mouse and rat kidney. These proteins were expressed in two non-overlapping patterns.
