Recent Advancements in Lung Cancer Metastasis Prevention Based on Nanostrategies

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Metastasis is the leading cause of death in patients with lung cancer. Nanomedicine can be used to prepare efficient drug delivery systems owing to their advantages and plays an important role in the synergistic antimetastasis of lung cancer. This comprehensive review summarizes the emerging nanostrategies against lung cancer metastasis based on the ...

The Antidiabetic Agent Sodium Tungstate Induces Abnormal Glycogen Accumulation in Renal Proximal Tubules from Diabetic IRS2-Knockout Mice

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Research, 2018
The kidney is an insulin-sensitive organ involved in glucose homeostasis. One major effect of insulin is to induce glycogen storage in the liver and muscle.

A histological study of the effect of exogenous melatonin on gentamicin induced structural alterations of proximal tubules in rats

open access: yesBiomolecules & Biomedicine, 2014
The aim of this research was to assess the reactive changes of rat proximal tubules caused by gentamicin and the effect of relatively low doses of melatonin. 48 adult male Wistar rats were distributed into six groups of equal size which all received one

Reduction of a model for sodium exchanges in kidney nephron [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
This work deals with a mathematical analysis of sodium's transport in a tubular architecture of a kidney nephron. The nephron is modelled by two counter-current tubules. Ionic exchange occurs at the interface between the tubules and the epithelium and between the epithelium and the surrounding environment (interstitium).

Self-assembly of Chiral Tubules [PDF]

open access: yesSoft Matter 10, 510 (2014), 2013
The efficient and controlled assembly of complex structures from macromolecular building blocks is a critical open question in both biological systems and nanoscience. Using molecular dynamics simulations we study the self-assembly of tubular structures from model macromolecular monomers with multiple binding sites on their surfaces [Cheng et al., Soft

Enhancer Profiling Reveals a Protective Role of RXRα Against Calcium Oxalate‐Induced Crystal Deposition and Kidney Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Comprehensive epigenomic and transcriptomic profiling revealed a dynamic enhancer landscape and gene expression program associated with nephrolithiasis, highlighting RXRα as a central transcription factor in this regulatory network. Tubular‐specific deletion of RXRα increased intrarenal CaOx crystal deposition, while its activation with Bexarotene ...

Normal levels of p27Xic1 are necessary for somite segmentation and determining pronephric organ size [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The Xenopus laevis cyclin dependent kinase inhibitor p27Xic1 has been shown to be involved in exit from the cell cycle and differentiation of cells into a quiescent state in the nervous system, muscle tissue, heart and retina.

Minimal Kidney Disease Phenotype in Heterozygous Null Mice

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Kidney Health and Disease, 2023
Background: Shroom family member 3 (SHROOM3) encodes an actin-associated protein that regulates epithelial morphology during development. Several genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified genetic variances primarily in the 5’ region of ...

Acceleration and suppression of banana-shaped-protein-induced tubulation by addition of small membrane inclusions of isotropic spontaneous curvatures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The membrane tubulation induced by banana-shaped protein rods is investigated by using coarse-grained meshless membrane simulations. It is found that the tubulation is promoted by laterally isotropic membrane inclusions that generate the same sign of spontaneous curvature as the adsorbed protein rods.

IncRNA‐ZFAS1, an Emerging Gate‐Keeper in DNA Damage‐Dependent Transcriptional Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
LncZFAS1 plays a crucial role during DNA damage response in mammalian cells. Loss of lncZFAS1 results in deficient DNA lesion removal and reduced cell viability. Mechanistically, lncZFAS1 modulates RNAPII phosphorylation and transcription and thereby promotes both GG‐NER and TC‐NER upon UV damage.
