Molecular Pharming: Advances, Applications, and Future Prospects in Biotechnology and Medicine
ABSTRACT Genetically engineered plants incorporate the use of a novel bioreactor known as molecular pharming, which has a transformative view on the pharmaceutical industry. The technique enables mass production, at a low cost, and reproducibly of a large number of different protein‐based drugs, vaccines, and industrial enzymes. This review‐based study

Yeast-like fungi isolated from indoor air in school buildings and the surrounding outdoor air
A total of 111 isolates of yeast-like fungi and yeasts belonging to 40 species of 19 genera were identified in indoor air and outdoor air. Only one species, Kluyveromyces marxianus, was recorded in both types of air and seasons (spring and autumn ...

Split-Doa10: a naturally split polytopic eukaryotic membrane protein generated by fission of a nuclear gene. [PDF]
Large polytopic membrane proteins often derive from duplication and fusion of genes for smaller proteins. The reverse process, splitting of a membrane protein by gene fission, is rare and has been studied mainly with artificially split proteins ...

Fungal systematics can feel overwhelming given the vast species diversity within this kingdom, with numerous subgroups at every taxonomic rank. This often creates a disconnect between the undertsnidng of fungal taxonomic diversity and their societal relevance.

Lactobacillus delbrueckii is a key lactic acid bacterium widely used in dairy fermentation, particularly in yogurt and cheese production. This graphical abstract highlights its technological roles in lactose metabolism, acidification, proteolysis, and exopolysaccharide (EPS) production, which contribute to improved texture, flavor, and nutritional ...

This study investigated the effects of incubation time and temperature, and initial patulin concentration on patulin removal rates, and the mechanism involved in patulin degradation by Rhodosporidiobolus ruineniae and Meyerozyma guilliermondii. The patulin degradation rate by the yeast strains was dependent on the three key parameters.

Reconstruction and analysis of a Kluyveromyces marxianus genome-scale metabolic model
Background Kluyveromyces marxianus is a thermotolerant yeast with multiple biotechnological potentials for industrial applications, which can metabolize a broad range of carbon sources, including less conventional sugars like lactose, xylose, arabinose ...

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the effects of milk kefir on parameters related to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in interleukin‐10 knockout (IL‐10−/−) mice. Sixteen C57BL/6J IL‐10−/− male mice were divided into two experimental groups. The control group (n = 8) received 0.4 mL of whole milk (UHT) and the kefir group (n = 8) received 0.4 mL of ...

A selective and differential solid medium, called Kluyveromyces Differential Medium (KDM), is described for the isolation of Kluyveromyces marxianus and K. lactis from dairy products. Its discriminative potential is based on the detection of the enzyme beta-galactosidase, in the absence of lactose.
