Prior Knowledge Based Motion Model Representation

open access: yesELCVIA Electronic Letters on Computer Vision and Image Analysis, 2005
This paper presents a new approach for human walking modeling from monocular image sequences. A kinematics model and a walking motion model are introduced in order to exploit prior knowledge. The proposed technique consists of two steps.

Knowledge Representations in Technical Systems -- A Taxonomy [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
The recent usage of technical systems in human-centric environments leads to the question, how to teach technical systems, e.g., robots, to understand, learn, and perform tasks desired by the human. Therefore, an accurate representation of knowledge is essential for the system to work as expected.

Representation Learning of Knowledge Graphs with Entity Descriptions

open access: yesAAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence, 2016
Representation learning (RL) of knowledge graphs aims to project both entities and relations into a continuous low-dimensional space. Most methods concentrate on learning representations with knowledge triples indicating relations between entities ...

Social context prevents heat hormetic effects against mutagens during fish development

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study shows that sublethal heat stress protects fish embryos against ultraviolet radiation, a concept known as ‘hormesis’. However, chemical stress transmission between fish embryos negates this protective effect. By providing evidence for the mechanistic molecular basis of heat stress hormesis and interindividual stress communication, this study ...

miRNA‐29 regulates epidermal and mesenchymal functions in skin repair

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
miRNA‐29 inhibits cell‐to‐cell and cell‐to‐matrix adhesion by silencing mRNA targets. Adhesion is controlled by complex interactions between many types of molecules coded by mRNAs. This is crucial for keeping together the layers of the skin and for regenerating the skin after wounding.

Unlocking the potential of tumor‐derived DNA in urine for cancer detection: methodological challenges and opportunities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Urine is a rich source of biomarkers for cancer detection. Tumor‐derived material is released into the bloodstream and transported to the urine. Urine can easily be collected from individuals, allowing non‐invasive cancer detection. This review discusses the rationale behind urine‐based cancer detection and its potential for cancer diagnostics ...

Practical knowledge representation for the Web [PDF]

open access: yesIEE Two-day Seminar. Searching for Information: Artificial Intelligence and Information Retrieval Approaches, 1999
The lack of semantic markup is a major barrier to the development of more intelligent document processing on the Web. Current HTML markup is used only to indicate the structure and lay-out of documents, but not the document semantics. Unfortunately, proposals from the AI community for Web-based knowledge -representation languages can hardly expect ...

Knowledge representation and update in hierarchies of graphs [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Logical and Algebraic Methods in Programming, 2019
A mathematical theory is presented for the representation of knowledge in the form of a directed acyclic hierarchy of objects in a category where all paths between any given pair of objects are required to be equal. The conditions under which knowledge update, in the form of the sesqui-pushout rewriting of an object in a hierarchy, can be propagated to

Subpar reporting of pre‐analytical variables in RNA‐focused blood plasma studies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical variables strongly influence the analysis of extracellular RNA (cell‐free RNA; exRNA) derived from blood plasma. Their reporting is essential to allow interpretation and replication of results. By evaluating 200 exRNA studies, we pinpoint a lack of reporting pre‐analytical variables associated with blood collection, plasma preparation ...

Surfaceome: a new era in the discovery of immune evasion mechanisms of circulating tumor cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the era of immunotherapies, many patients either do not respond or eventually develop resistance. We propose to pave the way for proteomic analysis of surface‐expressed proteins called surfaceome, of circulating tumor cells. This approach seeks to identify immune evasion mechanisms and discover potential therapeutic targets. Circulating tumor cells (
