Identification of a Novel KPC Variant, KPC-204, Conferring Resistance to Both Carbapenems and Ceftazidime–Avibactam in an ST11 Klebsiella pneumoniae Strain

open access: yesMicroorganisms
This study describes KPC-204, a novel variant of Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase, characterized by a Lys-Asp-Asp (KDD) amino acid insertion at Ambler position 269 deviates from KPC-2.

Patient Perspectives on Psychiatric Polygenic Risk Scores in Reproductive Decision‐Making and Polygenic Embryo Screening

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part B: Neuropsychiatric Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Polygenic risk scores (PRS) estimate individuals' genetic risk for developing multifactorial conditions. Recent genome‐wide association studies have enabled development of psychiatric PRS, which hold potential to streamline diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric conditions.

The Physics of the FIR-Radio Correlation: II. Synchrotron Emission as a Star-Formation Tracer in High-Redshift Galaxies

open access: yes, 2010
We construct one-zone steady-state models of cosmic ray (CR) injection, cooling, and escape over the entire dynamic range of the FIR-radio correlation (FRC), from normal galaxies to starbursts, over the redshift interval 0

Dynamical Formation of Millisecond Pulsars in Globular Clusters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The cumulative luminosity distribution functions (CLFs) of radio millisecond pulsars (MSPs) in globular clusters (GCs) and in the Galactic field at a frequency of 1.4 GHz have been examined.

KPC-2 Carbapenemase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates from patients with Cystic Fibrosis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cystic Fibrosis, 2011
Bacteria producing Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemases (KPCs) are rapidly emerging as a cause of multidrug-resistant infections worldwide. KPCs enzyme are plasmid-borne and can accumulate and transfer resistance determinants to other classes of antibiotics. We report two cases of KPC-2 carbapenemase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates from Cystic ...

In silico identification and experimental validation of hits active against KPC-2 β-lactamase.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Bacterial resistance has become a worldwide concern, particularly after the emergence of resistant strains overproducing carbapenemases. Among these, the KPC-2 carbapenemase represents a significant clinical challenge, being characterized by a broad ...

Work Versus Force: Simultaneous Processes for Describing Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Achieving a unified description of interactions remains an open challenge in theoretical physics, which currently describes four fundamental forces. This situation may be viewed differently when interactions are formulated in terms of processes (work as actio) rather than forces (force as actio), not only at the macroscopic level but also at ...

Evaluation of FilmArray Multiplex PCR Test Results in Bloodstream Infections in Oncological Patients

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
In this study conducted at an oncology hospital, BCID2 panel results for the rapid identification of microorganisms and resistance genes in positive blood culture samples were compared with conventional culture methods. The BCID2 panel provided faster results and showed a high correlation with traditional methods.

Diverse evolutionary trajectories of Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase: unraveling the impact of amino acid substitutions on β-lactam susceptibility and the role of avibactam in driving resistance

open access: yesmSystems
Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemases (KPCs) have evolved into over 245 distinct variants, with over one-third of variants exhibiting reduced susceptibility to ceftazidime-avibactam, while the underlying selection mechanisms remain elusive.
