Food Poisoning Associated with Kudoa Septempunctata

The Journal of Emergency Medicine, 2013
Kudoa septempunctata is a recently identified cause of food poisoning. We report three cases of food poisoning due to ingestion of this parasite.Among the 358 people exposed during the same catered meal, 94 (including our 3 patients) developed vomiting and diarrhea within 1-9 h after ingestion of raw muscle from contaminated aquacultured olive ...

Factors affecting sporoplasm release in Kudoa septempunctata

Parasitology Research, 2015
The myxosporean parasite Kudoa septempunctata has been isolated from cultured olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) and was recently identified as a cause of food poisoning in humans. Since the sporoplasm plays an important role in causing diarrhea by invading intestinal cells, the specific factors affecting the release of sporoplasm from spores ...

Survivability of Kudoa septempunctata in human intestinal conditions

Parasitology Research, 2016
To elucidate whether Kudoa septempunctata was able to live in the human intestine, we assessed viability of K. septempunctata sporoplasms under conditions that mimicked human and ragworm digestive tracts. To study the effect of osmotic pressure on viability, sporoplasms were incubated in 0.9 or 3.4 % sodium chloride solutions, which roughly ...

Cryopreservation of Kudoa septempunctata sporoplasm using commercial freezing media

Parasitology Research, 2016
Cryopreservation methods for Kudoa septempunctata have not been established. This prevents an effective study of K. septempunctata, which cannot be artificially cultivated in the laboratory. In this study, we attempted to establish a cryopreservation method for K.

A Kudoa septempunctata antigen induces production of IgE in BALB/c mice

Parasitology Research, 2017
Kudoa septempunctata, a myxosporean parasite, is the causative agent of a foodborne illness associated with consumption of raw Paralichthys olivaceus (olive flounder). Because the lag phase of this illness is short (from 1 to 12 h), it is possible that an allergic response is relevant to this illness. To test whether a K.

Kudoa septempunctataInvasion Increases the Permeability of Human Intestinal Epithelial Monolayer

Foodborne Pathogens and Disease, 2013
Kudoa septempunctata is a myxosporean parasite of Paralichthys olivaceus (olive flounder) and causes a foodborne illness that affects more than 100 cases in Japan each year. We previously reported that the consumption of raw olive flounder meat containing a high concentration of K.

Immune response of olive flounder ( Paralichthys olivaceus ) infected with the myxosporean parasite Kudoa septempunctata

Fish & Shellfish Immunology, 2017
This study evaluated the pathophysiological, biochemical, and immunological status of olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) infected with the myxosporean parasite Kudoa septempunctata. Flounder fish collected from Kudoa-infected and uninfected farms were confirmed by microscopic and TaqMan probe-based quantitative PCR screening.

[Discovery of Putative Anti-Kudoa septempunctata Chemical Agents by Comprehensive Assay].

Shokuhin eiseigaku zasshi. Journal of the Food Hygienic Society of Japan, 2021
We screened 360 chemicals and discovered that 71 chemicals had anti-Kudoa septempunctata effect. Especially 19 and seven of 71 chemicals were antibiotics and antibacterial agents/disinfectants, respectively. The other 45 chemicals were pesticides, natural toxins, industrial chemicals and medicines for non-infectious diseases.

Development of a multiplex PCR to detect Kudoa spp. and to distinguish Kudoa septempunctata in olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus

Aquaculture, 2016
Abstract Since the identification of Kudoa septempunctata as a causative agent of human food poisoning, Kudoa infections have become a serious concern in the aquaculture of olive flounder ( Paralichthys olivaceus ). In order to ensure the safety of cultured flounder, various methods have been developed to detect K . septempunctata .
