Enrichment of medium-quality colostrum by adding colostrum replacer, combined or not with transition milk in the feeding of dairy calves

open access: yesScientific Reports
Fifty Holstein calves were allocated in randomized blocks and distributed in a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement; (A) two sources of Ig: (1) Control: bovine colostrum (25% Brix); (2) Enriched colostrum: mid-quality bovine colostrum (20% Brix) enriched with ...

Transition Metal (II) Coordination Chemistry Ligated by a New Coplanar Tridentate Ligand, 2,6-Bis(5-isopropyl-1H-pyrazol-3-yl)pyridine

open access: yesInorganics
Transition metal (II) complexes stabilized by 2,6-di(pyrazol-3-yl)pyridine as a novel coplanar tridentate nitrogen-donor ligand have been reported for their unusual structures and photoluminescent properties.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The Impact of Geographical Location of Households’ Residences on the Livelihoods of Households Surrounding Protected Areas: An Empirical Analysis of Seven Nature Reserves Across Three Provinces in China

open access: yesLand
China has effectively safeguarded biodiversity by building the world’s largest system of nature reserves, but the livelihoods of farmers near the reserves are often not guaranteed. This paper aimed to deeply explore the intrinsic relationship between the

Existence of the Fomin derivative of the invariant measure of a stochastic reaction--diffusion equation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We consider a reaction--diffusion equation perturbed by noise (not necessarily white). We prove existence of the Fomin derivative of the corresponding transition semigroup $P_t$. The main tool is a new estimate for $P_tD\varphi$ in terms of $\|\varphi\|_{

Dispersion and damping of zone-boundary magnons in the noncentrosymmetric superconductor CePt3Si

open access: yes, 2011
Inelastic neutron scattering (INS) is employed to study damped spin-wave excitations in the noncentrosymmetric heavy-fermion superconductor CePt3Si along the antiferromagnetic Brillouin-zone boundary in the low-temperature magnetically ordered state ...

Dynamics of L–H transition and I-phase in EAST

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 2014
The turbulence and flows at the plasma edge during the L–I–H, L–I–L and single-step L–H transitions have been measured directly using two reciprocating Langmuir probe systems at the outer midplane with several newly designed probe arrays in the EAST superconducting tokamak.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

SUSY and the Electroweak Phase Transition

open access: yes, 1996
We analyze the effective 3 dimensional theory previously constructed for the MSSM and multi-Higgs models to determine the regions of parameter space in which the electroweak phase transition is sufficiently strong for a $B+L$ asymmetry to survive in the ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
