Derepressed utilization of L-malic acid and succinic acid by mutants of Pachysolen tannophilus
Utilization of the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle intermediates, L-malic acid and succinic acid, by the yeast Pachysolen tannophilus is repressed in the presence of glucose. Strains of P. tannophilus containing mutations in two hexokinases and a glucokinase were characterized for growth on glucose plus L-malic acid or succinic acid.

Characteristics of C-4 photosynthesis in stems and petioles of C-3 flowering plants [PDF]
Most plants are known as C-3 plants because the first product of photosynthetic CO2 fixation is a three-carbon compound. C-4 plants, which use an alternative pathway in which the first product is a four-carbon compound, have evolved independently many ...

Tandem VHH targeting distinct EGFR epitopes were engineered into a monovalent bispecific antibody (7D12‐EGA1‐Fc) with more potent ADCC without increasing affinity to EGFR. Structural modeling of 7D12‐EGA1‐Fc showed cross‐linking of separate EGFR domains to enhance CD16a engagement on NK cells.

Clinical analysis reveals significant dysregulation of FGFRL1 in esophageal cancer (EC) patients. RNAi‐coupled next‐generation sequencing (NGS) and in vitro study reveal FGFRL1‐mediated EC progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and Notch pathways. Functional assays confirm its role in tumor growth, migration, and invasion.

Some observations on the ecology and phytochemistry of nickel-accumulating alyssum species from the Iberian peninsula : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Chemistry at Massey University [PDF]
Experiments were carried out on the tolerance to, and uptake of nickel by Iberian subspecies of A. serpyllifolium. Two of these subspecies, the serpentinic-endemics s.sp. lusitanicum (from Bragança, Portugal) and s.sp.

Aged human bmMSCs are seeded in the scaffold. Osteoblastic induction can slightly increase cell's bone‐forming activity to produce bone‐like tissues, shown as the sporadic xylenol orange‐stained spots (the lower left image). Notably, pioglitazone plus EGCG co‐treatment dramatically increases cell's bone‐forming activity and bone‐like tissue production (

Mouse pre‐implantation development involves a transition from totipotency to pluripotency. Integrating transcriptomics, epigenetic profiling, low‐input proteomics and functional assays, we show that eight‐cell embryos retain residual totipotency features, whereas cytoskeletal remodeling regulated by the ubiquitin‐proteasome system drives progression ...
