L16, a bifunctional ribosomal protein and the enhancing effect of L6 and L11

FEBS Journal, 1986
L16 exhibits both peptide bond and transesterification activities when reconstituted into 2 M LiCl core particles. L6 and L11, when reconstituted in a similar manner in the absence of L16, manifest significant transesterification activity. Both L6 and L11 enhance the transesterification activity of L16; L11 being more active than L6 in this respect ...

Isolation of eukaryotic ribosomal proteins: purification and characterization of S25 and L16

Biochemistry, 1979
Proteins were extracted from rat liver ribosomal subunits with ethanol and ammonium chloride. The extract from the 40S subunit contained mainly S25, but smaller amounts of a number of other proteins were found as well; the extract from the 60S subparticle had L16 in addition to P1, P2, S25, and several other proteins.

L16. The role of glycemic control in the development of preeclampsia in type 1 diabetic women

Pregnancy Hypertension: An International Journal of Women's Cardiovascular Health, 2011
the release of the IPG P-type has been described at placental level with acquired alterations in the activation of proteins involved in insulin signalling in preeclamptic specimens: this was proposed to explain the glycogen accumulation found in these placentas.

L16 Identifying a therapeutic regimen for cholesterol delivery to huntington’s disease brain

Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry, 2016
Background Several studies provide evidence that brain cholesterol biosynthesis is reduced in several rodent models of Huntington’s disease1,2,3 and a similar reduction is also measurable in HD patients, even before disease onset.4,5 This dysfunction may be detrimental for neuronal cells, especially given that locally synthesised cholesterol is ...

Activation of Lfa-1: The L16 Epitope is a Cation-Binding Reporter

1993
Several observations indicate taht the affinity/avidity of integrin receptors for their ligands can be modulated. Resting leukocytes or platelets do not adhere spontaneously, but a variety of stimuli can induce β1- (VLA-4, VLA-5, VLA-6), β2- (LFA-1, CR3) and β3 integrin (IIb/IIIa) mediated cell-cell interactions.

Reconstruction of peptidyltransferase activity on 50S and 70S ribosomal particles by peptide fragments of protein L16

European Journal of Biochemistry, 1987
Ribosomal protein L16 was digested with Staphylococcus aureus protease V8 and the resulting peptides were separated by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography. One of the fragments, identified by sequence analysis as the N-terminal peptide of L16, was shown to exhibit partial peptide-bond-formation and transesterification activities of ...

The role of protein L16 and its fragments in the peptidyltransferase activity of 50‐S ribosomal subunits

European Journal of Biochemistry, 1983
Two large polypeptide fragments of ribosomal protein L16 were obtained by limited hydrolysis with trypsin and chymotrypsin. The chymotryptic fragment, lacking nine N‐terminal amino acid residues, is fully active in the restoration of the peptidyltransferase activity of the LiCl‐stripped 50‐S ribosomal subunits, whereas the tryptic fragment, lacking an ...

Optimization studies on coal–oil agglomeration using Taguchi (L16) experimental design

Fuel, 2015
Abstract Coal–oil agglomeration has been a prominent fine coal processing technique, which involves agitation of coal–water slurries in presence of immiscible oil forming coal–oil agglomerates. The present study investigates this technique using Taguchi (L16) design of experiments (DoE) methodology.
