Attention, Awareness, and Noticing: The Role of Consciousness and the Selective Fossilization Hypothesis

open access: yesWorking Papers in Applied Linguistics and TESOL, 2015
Learning a second language (L2) is a complex and variable process. Unlike first language (L1) acquisition, second language acquisition (SLA) is often marked by an interlanguage (IL) consisting of fragmentary, incomplete knowledge to varying degrees in ...

Continual Learning for Multimodal Data Fusion of a Soft Gripper

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Models trained on a single data modality often struggle to generalize when exposed to a different modality. This work introduces a continual learning algorithm capable of incrementally learning different data modalities by leveraging both class‐incremental and domain‐incremental learning scenarios in an artificial environment where labeled data is ...

A Soft Robotic Fish With a Dielectric Elastomer Actuator Body and Negative Stiffness Spine

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work introduces a bio‐mimetic soft robotic fish driven by fiber‐reinforced dielectric elastomer actuators integrated as its body. By prestretching this active skin against a flexible spine, a negative stiffness system is created, enabling large‐amplitude bending.

From Theory to Practice

open access: yesAnnali di Ca’ Foscari: Serie Occidentale
VanPatten’s Input Processing Theory (IPT) explains why second language (L2) learners often struggle to process grammatical forms from input – an essential step in Second Language Acquisition (SLA).

Intravital Multimodal Imaging of Human Cortical Organoid Transplantation in a Mouse Model of Chronic Stroke

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A multimodal intravital imaging platform enables longitudinal tracking of human cortical organoids transplanted into chronic stroke lesions. By combining surgical microscopy, MRI, bioluminescence imaging, and two‐photon fluorescence microscopy, the platform captures graft placement, viability dynamics, and cellular‐scale morphology in vivo, offering a ...

The acquisition of the quantitative pronoun by English and French learners of L2 Dutch: An experimental study based on an elicited imitation task [PDF]

open access: yesBucharest Working Papers in Linguistics, 2019
It has been argued that an elicited imitation task gives better insights into the L1 acquisition of the Dutch quantitative pronoun er than a picture elicitation task.
