Near-surface stellar magneto-convection: simulations for the Sun and a metal-poor solar analog

open access: yes, 2009
We present 2D local box simulations of near-surface radiative magneto-convection with prescribed magnetic flux, carried out with the MHD version of the CO5BOLD code for the Sun and a solar-like star with a metal-poor chemical composition (metal ...

Determinants of Product Outcome in Two Sesquiterpene Synthases from the Thermotolerant Bacterium Rubrobacter radiotolerans

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 26, Issue 1, January 2, 2025.
Nerolidol synthase (NerS) and trans‐α‐bergamotene synthase (BerS) from the thermotolerant bacterium Rubrobacter radiotolerans were characterised using a combined computational and experimental approach. An isomerisation step early in the reaction cascade was found to be a key determinant of product outcome, and NerS was found to possess catalytic ...

Representation of $H$-closed monoreflections in archimedean $ell$-groups with weak unit [PDF]

open access: yesCategories and General Algebraic Structures with Applications, 2018
The category of the title is called $mathcal{W}$. This has all free objects $F(I)$ ($I$ a set). For an object class $mathcal{A}$, $Hmathcal{A}$ consists of all homomorphic images of $mathcal{A}$-objects.

The Stromlo Missing Satellites Survey

open access: yes, 2008
The Stromlo Missing Satellites (SMS) program is a critical endeavor to investigate whether cold dark matter cosmology is flawed in its ability to describe the matter distribution on galaxy scales or proves itself once again as a powerful theory to make ...

Differential Responses of Methylobacterium and Sphingomonas Species to Multispecies Interactions in the Phyllosphere

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 27, Issue 1, January 2025.
Leaf‐associated bacterial populations of Methylobacterium and Sphingomonas in two‐ and three‐member synthetic communities on Arabidopsis thaliana display distinct spatial structures and population dynamics influenced by higher‐order interactions. Methylobacterium exhibited greater sensitivity to multispecies interactions compared to Sphingomonas. These

Continuum Emission by Cooling Clouds

open access: yes, 2008
The collapse of baryons into the center of a host dark matter halo is accompanied by radiation that may be detectable as compact (< 10 kpc) UV-continuum and Lyman Alpha (hereafter Lya) emission with Lya luminosities as high as ~1e42-1e43 erg/s in halos ...

Store‐and‐Forward Tele‐Dermatology Pilot Study in Belgium: Patients and Physicians Satisfaction Study With Process Evaluation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Clinical Practice, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Background. The use of telemedicine in dermatology is becoming more popular in Belgium and other countries as a result of increasing waiting lists. The objective of this study was to analyze if tele‐dermatology is a valuable alternative for in‐person consultations with the dermatologist and to get insight into the content of the remote consultations ...

Recent glitches detected in the Crab pulsar

open access: yes, 2012
From 2000 to 2010, monitoring of radio emission from the Crab pulsar at Xinjiang Observatory detected a total of nine glitches. The occurrence of glitches appears to be a random process as described by previous researches.

Boreal Summer Extratropical Intraseasonal Oscillation Prediction in Current Subseasonal‐To‐Seasonal Operational Models Over Eurasia

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 129, Issue 22, 28 November 2024.
Abstract Extratropical intraseasonal oscillations (EISO), which is akin to the tropical ISO, significantly influence mid‐high‐latitude intraseasonal variability. Previous studies have shown that biases in the dynamical prediction of EISOs reduce the accuracy of subseasonal forecasts for extreme events, particularly in extratropical regions.
