Impact investing in biodiversity conservation with bonds: An analysis of financial and environmental risk

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, Volume 32, Issue 1, Page 353-368, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Impact investments have the dual goals of generating profit and environmental and/or social impact from the same project or enterprise. This article examines recent impact investments in biodiversity conservation—specifically, debt finance in the form of conventional bonds and impact bonds.

Eight New Substellar Hyades Candidates from the UKIRT Hemisphere Survey

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
We have used the UKIRT Hemisphere Survey combined with the UKIDSS Galactic Cluster Survey, the UKIDSS Galactic Plane Survey, and the CatWISE2020 catalog to search for new substellar members of the nearest open cluster to the Sun, the Hyades.

Low Luminosity Companions to White Dwarfs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
This paper presents results of a near-infrared imaging survey for low mass stellar and substellar companions to white dwarfs. A wide field proper motion survey of 261 white dwarfs was capable of directly detecting companions at orbital separations between $\sim100$ and 5000 AU with masses as low as 0.05 $M_{\odot}$, while a deep near field search of 86

The Awakening Brain is Characterized by a Widespread and Spatiotemporally Heterogeneous Increase in High Frequencies

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work explores the process of morning awakening of the human brain using polysomnography paired with simultaneous stereo‐electroencephalography, a method that provides high spatial and temporal resolution for examining brain activity. Awakening is characterized by an increase in high‐frequency spectral power and connectivity.

New Cold Subdwarf Discoveries from Backyard Worlds and a Metallicity Classification System for T Subdwarfs

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We report the results of a spectroscopic survey of candidate T subdwarfs identified by the Backyard Worlds: Planet 9 program. Near-infrared spectra of 31 sources with red J  − W2 colors and large J -band reduced proper motions show varying signatures of ...

Mapping the Skies of Ultracool Worlds: Detecting Storms and Spots with Extremely Large Telescopes

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Extremely large telescopes (ELTs) present an unparalleled opportunity to study the magnetism, atmospheric dynamics, and chemistry of very-low-mass (VLM) stars, brown dwarfs, and exoplanets.

In Vivo Reprogramming of Tissue‐Derived Extracellular Vesicles for Treating Chronic Tissue Injury Through Metabolic Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by exercise‐induced metabolic rewiring and EV secretion, this study shows that in vivo metabolic engineering strategy can reprogram EV secretion pattern and simultaneously attenuate multiple tissue injury in CKD status, highlighting that it is a potential strategy for treating diverse chronic diseases.

Three Brown Dwarfs Masquerading as High-redshift Galaxies in JWST Observations

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We report the spectroscopic identification of three brown dwarf candidates—o005_s41280, o006_s00089, and o006_s35616—discovered in RUBIES using James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) Near-Infrared Spectrograph PRISM/CLEAR spectroscopy.

Atmospheric Retrieval of L Dwarfs: Benchmarking Results and Characterizing the Young Planetary Mass Companion HD 106906 b in the Near-infrared

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2023
We present model constraints on the atmospheric structure of HD 106906 b, a planetary-mass companion orbiting at a ∼700 au projected separation around a 15 Myr old stellar binary, using the APOLLO retrieval code on spectral data spanning 1.1–2.5 μ m. C/O

A man as a Buddhist imaginary in L. Yuzefovich's novel “Cranes and Dwarfs”

open access: yesRUDN Journal of Studies in Literature and Journalism, 2022
Buddhism finds a diverse reflection in the work of L. Yuzefovich for many decades. Buddhist ideas and motifs are present in his early book “The Autocrat of the desert. Baron R.
