Serine biosynthesis with one carbon catabolism represents a novel pathway for ATP generation in cells using alternative glycolysis with zero net ATP production [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Recent experimental evidence indicates that some cancer cells have an alternative glycolysis pathway with net zero ATP production, implying that upregulation of glycolysis in these cells may not be related to the generation of ATP.

The Lactate Dehydrogenases of Hemopoietic Cells [PDF]

open access: yesBlood, 1966
Abstract In summary we have demonstrated that hemopoietic stem cells of man contain all five isoenzymes, and not a single pure type. Our data and the results of others obtained from fetal tissue also indicate that embryonic LDH of man exists as multiple forms.

Blockade of Lactate Dehydrogenase-A (LDH-A) Improves Efficacy of Anti-Programmed Cell Death-1 (PD-1) Therapy in Melanoma

open access: yesCancers, 2019
Immunotherapy is a curable treatment for certain cancers, but it is still only effective in a small subset of patients. We have recently reported that programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) ligand (PD-L1) expression is regulated by lactate present at ...

Characterization of Rabbit Lactate Dehydrogenase-M and Lactate Dehydrogenase-H cDNAs

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1989
Two cDNA clones were isolated, one corresponding to the mRNA coding for lactate dehydrogenase-M (LDH-M), the other to the mRNA coding for lactate dehydrogenase-H (LDH-H). The cDNA inserts consist of the entire open reading frame for LDH-M and a partial sequence, from amino acid 117 to 332, for LDH-H. Using these two clones as probes we demonstrate that:

Electron transport phosphorylation in rumen butyrivibrios: unprecedented ATP yield for glucose fermentation to butyrate. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
From a genomic analysis of rumen butyrivibrios (Butyrivibrio and Pseudobutyrivibrio sp.), we have re-evaluated the contribution of electron transport phosphorylation (ETP) to ATP formation in this group.

Relative catalytic efficiencies and transcript levels of three d‐ and two l‐lactate dehydrogenases for optically pure d‐lactate production in Sporolactobacillus inulinus

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, 2019
As the optical purity of the lactate monomer is pivotal for polymerization, the production of optically pure d‐lactate is of significant importance. Sporolactobacillus inulinus YBS1‐5 is a superior optically pure d‐lactate‐producing bacterium.

Identification of human D lactate dehydrogenase deficiency

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Phenotypic and biochemical categorization of humans with detrimental variants can provide valuable information on gene function. We illustrate this with the identification of two different homozygous variants resulting in enzymatic loss-of-function in ...

Stabilization of lactate dehydrogenase [PDF]

open access: yes, 1972
Addition of substances such as dimethylsulfoxide, glycerol, and gelatin to aqueous solutions of lactate dehydrogenase maintains enzymes in stable and fully active form when stored at 2 - 6 ...

The thioredoxin‐like and one glutaredoxin domain are required to rescue the iron‐starvation phenotype of HeLa GLRX3 knock out cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Glutaredoxin (Grx) 3 proteins contain a thioredoxin domain and one to three class II Grx domains. These proteins play a crucial role in iron homeostasis in eukaryotic cells. In human Grx3, at least one of the two Grx domains, together with the thioredoxin domain, is essential for its function in iron metabolism.

l-Lactate treatment by photosynthetic cyanobacteria expressing heterogeneous l-lactate dehydrogenase

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
l-Lactate is a major waste compound in cultured animal cells. To develop a sustainable animal cell culture system, we aimed to study the consumption of l-lactate using a photosynthetic microorganism.
