Intra-Abdominal Metabolism and Blood Flow During Abdominal Hypertension and ndash; A Porcine Pilot Study Under Intravenous Anaesthesia

open access: yesArchives of Clinical and Experimental Surgery, 2013
Objective: To study the splanchnic metabolism and intestinal circulation in a porcine model with increased abdominal pressure. Methods: In an experimental porcine study, performed under intravenous anaesthesia, five animals were subjected to gradually ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Association of Postoperative Serum Lactate Levels with Acute Kidney Injury in Mexican Patients Undergoing Cardiac Surgery

open access: yesClinics and Practice
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a highly prevalent and a critical complication of cardiac surgery (CS). Serum lactate (sLac) levels have consistently shown an association with morbimortality after CS. We performed a cross-sectional study including 264 adult

Normal saline versus balanced crystalloids in patients with prerenal acute kidney injury and pre-existing chronic kidney disease

open access: yesRomanian Journal of Internal Medicine, 2023
Normal saline (N/S) and Ringer’s-Lactate (L/R), are administered in everyday clinical practice. Despite that, N/S increases the risk of sodium overload and hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis.

Multifunctional star-shaped polylactic acid implants for use in angioplasty [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Star-shaped polylactic acids with different tacticity were synthesized and both polymers are capable of bestowing properties of anticoagulation and angiogenesis to their living host.

ATF4‐mediated stress response as a therapeutic vulnerability in chordoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We screened 5 chordoma cell lines against 100+ inhibitors of epigenetic and metabolic pathways and kinases and identified halofuginone, a tRNA synthetase inhibitor. Mechanistically halofuginone induces an integrated stress response, with eIF2alpha phosphorylation, activation of ATF4 and its target genes CHOP, ASNS, INHBE leading to cell death ...

Enantioconvergent construction of stereogenic silicon via Lewis base-catalyzed dynamic kinetic silyletherification of racemic chlorosilanes

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
Organosilanes possessing an enantioenriched stereogenic silicon center are important in many branches of chemistry, yet they remain challenging to synthesize in a practical and scalable way. Here we report a dynamic kinetic silyletherification process of

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Correlation between Persistent Serum Lactate Elevation and Brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging Abnormalities in Children with Status Epilepticus [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Child Neurology
Purpose This study was conducted to evaluate the correlation between persistent serum lactate elevation and brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in children with status epilepticus (SE).

“Lactate Shift,” Rather Than “Lactate Clearance,” for Serial Blood Lactate Monitoring?

open access: yesCritical Care Medicine, 2015
To the Editor:We read with interest the letter to the editor by Dr. Vincent (1) citing our work (2) on blood lactate in patients with sepsis admitted to intensive care, and we broadly agree with the points he raised.
