TOMM20 increases cancer aggressiveness by maintaining a reduced state with increased NADH and NADPH levels, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and apoptosis resistance while reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Enantioselectivity of (321) chiral noble metal surfaces: A Density Functional Theory study of lactate adsorption [PDF]
The adsorption of the chiral molecule lactate on the intrinsically chiral noble metal surfaces Pt(321), Au(321) and Ag(321) is studied by Density Functional Theory calculations. We use the oPBE-vdW functional which includes van der Waals forces on an ab initio level.

Disturbances of oxygen supply or cellular oxygen metabolism are common in critically ill patients. An understanding of dysoxia, or oxygen limited energy depletion, requires an understanding of the normal physiology of cell oxygen metabolism, and the compensatory mechanisms that supply high energy molecules under conditions of hypoxia.
