Systemic, Lifestyle and Environmental Modifying Factors in the Pathogenesis of Periodontitis

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
A variety of impacting factors in the pathogenesis of periodontitis exist, including systemic, lifestyle, and environmental factors. This review highlights the manifold mechanistic aspects of the link between the pathogenesis of periodontitis, addressing these numerous factors to supplement the long‐standing knowledge of the progression of the disease.

Understanding the Purchasing and Consumption Dynamics of Commercially Processed Complementary Foods and Caregiver Motivations and Reasons for Purchasing These Foods in Nairobi

open access: yesMaternal &Child Nutrition, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Commercially processed complementary foods (CPCFs) are consumed in Kenya, but little is known about caregiver perceptions and reasons for their consumption. We explored caregiver perceptions, motivations and reasons for purchasing CPCFs. This cross‐sectional mixed‐methods study was conducted in Nairobi among caregivers of children aged 6–23 ...

Beyond Malabsorption: The Need for Symptom‐Based Assessment in Suspected Lactose Intolerance. Lessons From a Test‐Specific Symptom Assessment

open access: yesNeurogastroenterology &Motility, EarlyView.
Breath test–proven malabsorption does not reliably predict symptoms. Many patients without malabsorption still develop significant symptoms. Symptoms after lactose ingestion are linked to fructose sensitivity and functional GI disorders. Validated, test‐specific symptom assessment is required to identify patients who may benefit from treatment ...

Risk Evaluation and Molecular Characterisation of AtNPR1 Transgenic Citrus Lines Tolerant to Citrus Greening Disease

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Citrus greening disease, or Huanglongbing (HLB), has caused devastating losses to citrus production in Florida, with yields declining by over 90% since 2005. Despite extensive efforts, no sustainable solution has been widely effective. Here, transgenic ‘Hamlin’ sweet orange lines engineered to constitutively express the Arabidopsis NPR1 ...
