Emergence of language in interactive systems
2001 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man and Cybernetics. e-Systems and e-Man for Cybernetics in Cyberspace (Cat.No.01CH37236), 2002With computer systems increasingly evolving into personal interactive systems, an important issue becomes their ability to closely interact with humans. The authors discuss the emergence of language in interactive systems by grinding a continuously evolving lexicon into perceptual categories.

Examining interaction in language therapy
International Journal of Language & Communication Disorders, 2000AbstractDiscussions around a ‘theory of therapy’ have prompted attempts to delineate the components of therapy for language impairment in aphasia. Here it is suggested that the therapy components associated with how language therapy is enacted need more precise specification, especially in relation to what is entailed by interaction between therapist ...

GRASS3, a language for interactive graphics
Proceedings of the May 4-7, 1981, national computer conference on - AFIPS '81, 1981With the advance of technology, graphics devices are becoming more powerful and less expensive, making interactive graphics increasingly popular as a method of man-machine communication. Often nonprogrammers play a principal role in the design and implementation of graphics applications.

Language and space: some interactions
Trends in Cognitive Sciences, 2001Is language linked to mental representations of space? There are several reasons to think that language and space might be separated in our cognitive systems, but they nevertheless interact in important ways. These interactions are evident in language viewed as a means of communication and in language considered a form of representation.

Interactive Language Implementation System
IBM Journal of Research and Development, 1984The Interactive Language Implementation System (ILIS) is a tool for implementing language processors. It is fast enough for conventional compilers and general enough for processing natural languages. ILIS is built around a language for writing grammars. Unlike most compiler-compilers, the language includes a full range of semantic operators that reduce

Language as a Tool for Interacting Minds
Mind & Language, 2010What is the role of language in social interaction? What does language bring to social encounters? We argue that language can be conceived of as a tool for interacting minds, enabling especially effective and flexible forms of social coordination, perspective‐taking and joint action.

Languages and interactive software development
1994Most software is developed using interactive computing systems and substantial compute-power. Considerable assistance can be given to the developer by providing language-based support that takes advantage of analysis of software artifacts and the languages in which they are written.
