A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Al2O3/GeO2/P2O5/F-Doped Silica Large-Mode-Area Optical Fibers for High-Power Single-Frequency Radiation Delivery

open access: yesPhotonics, 2023
A new design of a passive optical fiber waveguide with a large mode area (LMA) and strong stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) suppression is proposed. The fiber core consists of two parts: a central one, doped with Al2O3 and GeO2, and a peripheral one,

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

A Detailed Study of a Resonant-Assisted Segmented Cladding Fiber for Large Mode Area Applications

open access: yesPhotonics
In this work, we have proposed and optimized a large mode area segmented cladding fiber (SCF) with an unconventional low-index segment cladding. The low-refractive-index cladding proposed in this paper consists of three parts.

Characteristics and Laser Performance of Yb3+-Doped Silica Large Mode Area Fibers Prepared by Sol–Gel Method

open access: yesFibers, 2013
Large-size 0.1 Yb2O3–1.0 Al2O3–98.9 SiO2 (mol%) core glass was prepared by the sol–gel method. Its optical properties were evaluated. Both large mode area double cladding fiber (LMA DCF) with core diameter of 48 µm and large mode area photonic crystal ...

Refractivity of P2O5-Al2O3-SiO2 Glass in Optical Fibers

open access: yesPhotonics, 2023
A significant change in the refractive index profiles for the large mode area phosphoroaluminosilicate (PAS) core optical fibers was observed in comparison to that in preforms.

Efficient harmonic generation with large-mode-area fiber sources

open access: yesTechnical Digest. Summaries of Papers Presented at the Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics. Conference Edition. 1998 Technical Digest Series, Vol.6 (IEEE Cat. No.98CH36178), 1998
We present the results of a series of experiments using doped fiber sources in which we have, to the best of our knowledge, demonstrated the highest ever pulse energies from a Q-switched fiber laser (180 /spl mu/J), the high second-harmonic conversion efficiency from a single pass in PPLN (periodically poled LiNbO/sub 3/) (83%), and the first ...

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Steady-periodic method for modeling mode instability in fiber amplifiers

open access: yes, 2013
We present a detailed description of the methods used in our model of mode instability in high-power, rare earth-doped, large-mode-area fiber amplifiers.

Large mode area fibers with asymmetric bend compensation

open access: yesOptics Express, 2011
Fibers with asymmetrical bend compensation offer to completely remove the tradeoff between mode area and single-modedness, with potentially huge impact on high-power amplification. These fibers would be difficult to fabricate, but are the only fundamental-mode strategy that can remove the bend-distortion limitations on mode-area scaling.
