Enhancing the precision limits of interferometric satellite geodesy missions
Satellite geodesy uses the measurement of the motion of one or more satellites to infer precise information about the Earth’s gravitational field. In this work, we consider the achievable precision limits on such measurements by examining approximate ...

Evolution of momentum-dependent observables under stochastic phase noise in Rabi oscillations
We derive the equations of motion of arbitrary momentum-dependent observables for a fully first-quantized, driven two-level atom in a linear potential under the presence of a stochastic laser phase.

Electronic phase-noise suppression in diode lasers
It is shown that active current feedback reduces phase noise in diode lasers by between a factor of 1000 and 30 in the 0–250 Hz region.

Noise Characteristics of semiconductor Laser with Phase- Conjugate Feedback [PDF]
Noise spectra of semiconductor laser subject to a phase-conjugate feedback were investigated theoretically. Time-delayed rate equations with feedback were solved and characteristic equations for relative intensity noise and frequency noise spectra were ...

Reduction of optical phase noise in semiconductor lasers
There are several applications of highly coherent semiconductor lasers, especially in coherent optical-fibre communications systems and optical-fibre sensors. Optical phase noise is extremely important in these applications. Here we report preliminary results from a simple technique whereby phase noise in semiconductor lasers may be reduced.

High-order modulations are currently widely used in optical communications to increase the data rate. However, due to the existence of laser phase noise, the performance of high-order modulated systems will be greatly degraded.

Driven geometric phase gates with trapped ions
We describe a hybrid laser–microwave scheme to implement two-qubit geometric phase gates in crystals of trapped ions. The proposed gates can attain errors below the fault-tolerance threshold in the presence of thermal, dephasing, laser-phase and ...

Measurement and feedforward correction of the fast phase noise of lasers
Lasers are the workhorse of quantum engineering in the atomic-molecular-optic community. However, phase noise of the laser, which can be especially large in popular semiconductor-based lasers, can limit fidelity of operation. Here, we present a fully-fiberized instrument detecting and correcting the fast, sub-microsecond, phase fluctuations of lasers ...

Study on Linewidth and Phase Noise Characteristics of a Narrow Linewidth External Cavity Diode Laser
In the field of inter-satellite laser communication, achieving high-quality communication and compensating for the Doppler frequency shift caused by relative motion necessitate lasers with narrow linewidths, low phase noise, and the ability to achieve ...
