Paxillin LD4 Motif Binds PAK and PIX through a Novel 95-kD Ankyrin Repeat, ARF–GAP Protein: A Role in Cytoskeletal Remodeling

open access: yesJournal of Cell Biology, 1999
Paxillin is a focal adhesion adaptor protein involved in the integration of growth factor- and adhesion-mediated signal transduction pathways. Repeats of a leucine-rich sequence named paxillin LD motifs (Brown M.C., M.S. Curtis, and C.E. Turner.

Sex‐Related Differences in Efficacy and Safety Outcomes in Axial Spondyloarthritis Randomized Clinical Trials: A Systematic Literature Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We aimed to assess differences in baseline characteristics, efficacy, and safety of advanced therapies between male and female patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) in randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Methods We conducted a systematic literature search for RCTs assessing the efficacy of advanced therapies in patients with axSpA ...

Liver disease in cystic fibrosis: A prospective study on incidence, risk factors, and outcome

open access: yesHepatology, 2002
Incidence of liver disease (LD) associated with cystic fibrosis (CF) and its clinical characterization still is unsettled. We have assessed prospectively the incidence and risk factors of this complication, and its impact on the clinical course of CF ...

Effectiveness of a Telephone‐Delivered Walk With Ease Program on Arthritis‐Related Symptoms, Function, and Activity: A Randomized Trial

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Walk With Ease (WWE) is a six‐week arthritis‐appropriate evidence‐based physical activity program traditionally offered in a face‐to‐face format. Because many populations encounter participation barriers to in‐person programs, WWE was modified for telephone delivery (WWE‐T).

Genome-Wide Association Study of Coronary Heart Disease and Its Risk Factors in 8,090 African Americans: The NHLBI CARe Project

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2011
Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the leading cause of mortality in African Americans. To identify common genetic polymorphisms associated with CHD and its risk factors (LDL- and HDL-cholesterol (LDL-C and HDL-C), hypertension, smoking, and type-2 diabetes)

3D Mechanical Confinement Directs Muscle Stem Cell Fate and Function

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the physical environment surrounding muscle stem cells (MuSCs) plays a crucial role in their function. Using a 3D hydrogel system, it shows that increased confinement preserves MuSC stemness by limiting activation, proliferation, and differentiation.

FLOWERING LOCUS T Protein May Act as the Long-Distance Florigenic Signal in the Cucurbits[W]

open access: yesThe Plant Cell Online, 2007
Cucurbita moschata, a cucurbit species responsive to inductive short-day (SD) photoperiods, and Zucchini yellow mosaic virus (ZYMV) were used to test whether long-distance movement of FLOWERING LOCUS T (FT) mRNA or FT is required for floral induction ...

Multifunctional Design of Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Structures for Temporary Pediatric Fixation Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A metallic implant's higher stiffness compared to the surrounding bone leads to stress shielding problems, causing bone density reduction and bone growth interference in pediatric patients. 3D‐printed triply periodic minimal surface structures present a promising engineering solution.

Peroxisomal Hydrogen Peroxide Is Coupled to Biotic Defense Responses by ISOCHORISMATE SYNTHASE1 in a Daylength-Related Manner1[C][W][OA]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 2010
While it is well established that reactive oxygen species can induce cell death, intracellularly generated oxidative stress does not induce lesions in the Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) photorespiratory mutant cat2 when plants are grown in short days

Dislocation Distribution, Crystallographic Texture Evolution, and Plastic Inhomogeneity of Inconel 718 Fabricated by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Spatial distribution of microstructure in Inconel 718 3D‐printed with bidirectional strategy with no rotation and chessboard strategy is studied. The former results in a highly ordered arrangement of coarse grains separated by line clusters of dislocation‐dense fine grains. This arrangement is disrupted by the chessboard strategy.
