Effects of leaf removal and cluster thinning on berry quality of Vitis vinifera cultivars in the region of Weibei Dryland in China

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Agriculture, 2018
Leaf removal and cluster thinning were carried out prior to veraison to evaluate the effects on berry quality of two Vitis vinifera cultivars (Cabernet Sauvignon and Ugni Blanc) in the Weibei Dryland of China in 2013 and 2014, and comprehensive analysis ...

Precise Control of Drug Release in Machine Learning‐Designed Antibody‐Eluting Implants for Postoperative Scarring Inhibition in Glaucoma

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We developed a micro‐sized, biocompatible implant for postoperative sustained delivery of anti‐fibrotic antibodies in glaucoma surgery. Machine learning‐guided optimization of polymer composition, implant geometry, and porosity enabled precise control of drug release.

Effect of timing of leaf removal on yield, grape primary composition and volatile composition of Vitis vinifera cv. Merlot grapevines [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Central European Agriculture
Leaf removal in the grape zone is one of the most common viticultural practices to manipulate the microclimate of grapevines and reduce canopy density. The timing of defoliation plays an important role in the synthesis of volatile compounds in the grapes,

Bioengineered Lymphatic Vessels in Synthetic Matrices to Study Breast Cancer Cell Functions

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Lymphatic vessels are involved in cancer metastasis. To study the interplay between metastasizing cancer cells and lymphatic vessels under highly reproducible conditions, advanced in vitro models are required. In this work, 3D lymphatic networks are formed in biomimetic hydrogels and their interactions with invasive and non‐invasive cancer cell‐lines ...

Three‐Dimensional Ovary Model to Improve and Study Murine Follicle Growth

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
To develop new methods for fertility preservation in women, novel culture systems for small follicles need to be established. In this work, a poly(ethylene glycol) based scaffold, with appropriate mechanical and bioactive features to support mouse follicle and ovary cell growth is developed, and the formed cell‐follicle interactions are visualized ...

The Influence of Apical and Basal Defoliation on the Canopy Structure and Biochemical Composition of Vitis vinifera cv. Shiraz Grapes and Wine

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2017
Defoliation is a commonly used viticultural technique to balance the ratio between grapevine vegetation and fruit. Defoliation is conducted around the fruit zone to reduce the leaf photosynthetic area, and to increase sunlight exposure of grape bunches ...

A Versatile Engineering Platform for the Fabrication of Prosthetic Venous Valves Using Electrospinning

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Percutaneous prosthetic venous valves are fabricated by embedding stents in an electrospun matrix that extends luminally to form leaflets. The design shields leaflets from hyperplastic cells, isolates struts from blood contact, and avoids discrete anchoring points.
