Effect of changed source/sink relations on proteolytic activities and on nitrogen mobilization in field-grown wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Nitrogen mobilization and the pattern of proteolytic enzymes were investigated in leaves and glumes of field-grown winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) during maturation. Source/sink relations were changed by removal of the ear, the flag leaf or the lower

The Tale of the Residual Tail: Insights From Continuous Intracranial Monitoring From Post‐Hippocampectomy Dynamics

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Subtotal hippocampal resection can leave residual hippocampal tissue, yet the immediate postoperative electrophysiologic evolution of such remnants is unknown. We describe a patient with drug‐resistant temporal lobe epilepsy in whom a hippocampal remnant was continuously monitored using a responsive neurostimulator (RNS) following subtotal ...

Effects of early leaf removal on volatile compounds concentrations in Cabernet Sauvignon wines from the Ilok vineyards

open access: yesPoljoprivreda, 2018
The aim of this two year study was to evaluate effects of basal leaf removal before blooming on volatile composition of Cabernet Sauvignon wines in the Ilok vineyards (eastern Croatia).

Learning through the waste: olfactory cues from the colony refuse influence plant preferences in foraging leaf-cutting ants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Leaf-cutting ants learn to avoid plants initially harvested if they proved to be harmful for their symbiotic fungus once incorporated into the nest.

Carbon partitioning between shoot organs following early leaf removal [PDF]

open access: yesBIO Web of Conferences, 2019
In grapevines, basal leaf removal at bloom often induces a reduction of fruit set. The effect is related to a reduction in carbon availability for different plant organs competing for photosynthates. To understand and quantify carbon allocation among major sink organs following the early basal leaf removal, the effect of early basal defoliation was ...

IPM: Leaf removal for pest management in wine grapes [PDF]

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 1990
Leaf removal can effectively manage Botrytis bunch rot and the “summer bunch rot complex” of wine grapes in the San Joaquin Valley and coastal growing areas. The practice may help manage such insect pests as leaf hoppers. Producers have sdopted leaf removal as a routine cultural practice, especially where high-value, premium varietals are grown.

Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.
