Minimum Leaf Removal for Reconciliation: Complexity and Algorithms [PDF]
Reconciliation is a well-known method for studying the evolution of a gene family through speciation, duplication, and loss. Unfortunately, the inferred history strongly depends on the considered gene tree for the gene family, as a few misplaced leaves can lead to a completely different history, possibly with significantly more duplications and losses.

Teak Leaf-Based Activated Carbon for Phosphate Removal
The use of detergent predictably causes large quantities of phosphate ion in water bodies. It is considered to trigger eutrophication, that creates a severe reduction in water quality. Adsorption using activated carbon is one of the effective methods for the removal of phosphate from wastewater.

The Directed Dominating Set Problem: Generalized Leaf Removal and Belief Propagation
A minimum dominating set for a digraph (directed graph) is a smallest set of vertices such that each vertex either belongs to this set or has at least one parent vertex in this set. We solve this hard combinatorial optimization problem approximately by a

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Automatic Leaf Extraction from Outdoor Images [PDF]
Automatic plant recognition and disease analysis may be streamlined by an image of a complete, isolated leaf as an initial input. Segmenting leaves from natural images is a hard problem.
