Trigonometric polynomials deviating the least from zero in measure and related problems

open access: yes, 2009
We give a solution of the problem on trigonometric polynomials $f_n$ with the given leading harmonic $y\cos nt$ that deviate the least from zero in measure, more precisely, with respect to the functional $ (f_n)=mes\{t\in[0,2 ]: |f_n(t)|\ge 1\}$. For trigonometric polynomials with a fixed leading harmonic, we consider the least uniform deviation from

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

A review of measures of competitive balance in the "analysis of competitive balance" literature [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This paper presents a review of measures of the competitive balance of sports leagues proposed in the line of literature which Fort and Maxcy (2003, p. 155) call “ ... the analysis of competitive balance (ACB) literature itself”.

SAI, a Sensible Artificial Intelligence that plays Go

open access: yes, 2019
We propose a multiple-komi modification of the AlphaGo Zero/Leela Zero paradigm. The winrate as a function of the komi is modeled with a two-parameters sigmoid function, so that the neural network must predict just one more variable to assess the winrate

Logarithmic Derivatives of Least Deviation from Zero

open access: yes, 2014
We study least deviation of logarithmic derivatives of real-valued polynomials with a fixed root from zero on the segment $[-1;1]$ in the uniform norm with the weight $\sqrt{1-x^2}$ and without it. Basing on results of Komarov and Novak and on a certain determinant identity due to Borchardt, we also establish a criterion for best uniform approximation ...

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

A default prior for regression coefficients

open access: yes, 2018
When the sample size is not too small, M-estimators of regression coefficients are approximately normal and unbiased. This leads to the familiar frequentist inference in terms of normality-based confidence intervals and p-values.

Hands‐on protocol for preparing water‐soluble fractions from agri‐food samples for NMR‐based metabolomics analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This research protocol outlines a workflow for nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)‐based metabolomics in the agri‐food sector. Using two case studies—strawberry leaves (solid matrix) and wine (liquid matrix)—it details the procedures for sample preparation, data acquisition, and processing.

Antibiofilm activity of a chionodracine‐derived peptide by NMR‐based metabolomics of cell‐free supernatant of Acinetobacter baumannii clinical strains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KHS‐Cnd peptide is able to impair biofilm formation and disaggregate mature biofilms in Acinetobacter baumannii clinical isolates. Differences in extracellular metabolites reflect changes in biofilm metabolism due to KHS‐Cnd treatment. Among the differentially represented extracellular metabolites upon KHS‐Cnd treatment, the significantly altered ...
