An improved bound on the Maximum Agreement Subtree problem [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2009
We improve the lower bound on the extremal version of the Maximum Agreement Subtree problem. Namely we prove that two binary trees on the same $n$ leaves have subtrees with the same $\geq c\log\log n$ leaves which are homeomorphic, such that homeomorphism is identity on the leaves.

Detection rate for ESR1 mutations is higher in circulating‐tumor‐cell‐derived genomic DNA than in paired plasma cell‐free DNA samples as revealed by ddPCR

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Analysis of ESR1 mutations in plasma cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) is highly important for the selection of treatment in patients with breast cancer. Using multiplex‐ddPCR and identical blood draws, we investigated whether circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and cfDNA provide similar or complementary information for ESR1 mutations.

The median of the distance between two leaves in a phylogenetic tree [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
We establish a limit formula for the median of the distance between two leaves in a fully resolved unrooted phylogenetic tree with n leaves. More precisely, we prove that this median is equal, in the limit, to the square root of 4*ln(2)*n.

Respiratory complex I‐mediated NAD+ regeneration regulates cancer cell proliferation through the transcriptional and translational control of p21Cip1 expression by SIRT3 and SIRT7

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
NAD+ regeneration by mitochondrial complex I NADH dehydrogenase is important for cancer cell proliferation. Specifically, NAD+ is necessary for the activities of NAD+‐dependent deacetylases SIRT3 and SIRT7, which suppress the expression of p21Cip1 cyclin‐dependent kinase inhibitor, an antiproliferative molecule, at the translational and transcriptional

Topology of generic foliations on Stein manifolds: structure of leaves and Kupka-Smale property [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
We study topology of leaves of 1-dimensional singular holomorphic foliations of Stein manifolds. We prove that for a generic foliation all leaves, except for at most countably many, are contractible, the rest are topological cylinders. We show that a generic foliation is complex Kupka-Smale.

Forms of Leaves [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1883
You have recently inserted several letters from Mr. Grant Allen on the forms of leaves, a question in which I have myself been working lately. Mr. Grant Allen's letters open up a number of interesting questions, but for the moment I will only refer to his suggestion with reference to the reason why water plants so often have their leaves cut up into ...

Molecular and functional profiling unravels targetable vulnerabilities in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We used whole exome and RNA‐sequencing to profile divergent genomic and transcriptomic landscapes of microsatellite stable (MSS) and microsatellite instable (MSI) colorectal cancer. Alterations were classified using a computational score for integrative cancer variant annotation and prioritization.
