Lectin pathway influences the severity of leprosy

2022
This study aimed to evaluate the influence of the lectin pathway proteins Mannose-binding lectin (MBL) and ficolins (FCNs) MBL and FCN3) on leprosy’s susceptibility and severity. We studied patients with a confirmed diagnosis of leprosy (n=90) and their healthy household contacts (n=79).

Lectins and protein traffic early in the secretory pathway

Biochemical Society Symposia, 2002
Lectins of the early secretory pathway are involved in selective transport of newly synthesized glycoproteins from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) to the ER–Golgi intermediate compartment (ERGIC). The most prominent cycling lectin is the mannose-binding type I membrane protein ERGIC-53 (ERGIC protein of 53 kDa), a marker for the ERGIC, which functions ...

Derivatives of the lectin complement pathway in Lophotrochozoa

Developmental & Comparative Immunology, 2019
A plethora of non-overlapping immune molecular mechanisms in metazoans is the most puzzling issue in comparative immunobiology. No valid evolutionary retrospective on these mechanisms has been developed. In this study, we aimed to reveal the origin and evolution of the immune complement-like system in Lophotrochozoa.

Activation of the lectin pathway in murine lupus nephritis

Molecular Immunology, 2005
In systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), hypocomplementaemia and complement deposition have been described both in man and in experimental models. A major involvement of the classical pathway of complement activation has been demonstrated in this disease, however relatively little is known about the involvement of the lectin pathway.

The lectin pathway in renal disease

Nephrology, Dialysis, Transplantation, 2018
The complement system is composed of a network of at least 40 proteins, which significantly contributes to health and disease. The lectin pathway (LP) is one of three pathways that can activate the complement system. Next to protection of the host against pathogens, the LP has been shown to play a crucial role in multiple renal diseases as well as ...

Lectins of ERAD Pathway: F-Box Proteins and M-Type Lectins

2012
Glycoprotein folding and degradation in endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is mediated by ER quality control system. Quality control in ER ensures that only properly folded proteins are retained in the cell through mechanisms that recognize and discard misfolded or unassembled proteins in a process called endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation (ERAD ...
