In view of an express regulation: Considering the scope and soundness of a contrario reasoning

open access: yesInformal Logic, 2008
A contrario reasoning (or ‘a contrario argument’ or ‘argument a contrario’) is traditionally understood as an appeal to the deliberate silence of the legislator: because a legal rule does not mention case X specifically, the rule is not applicable to it.

Organoid Brain‐Machine‐Interface Devices for Central Nervous System Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We envision organoid brain‐machine‐interface (Organoid‐BMI) devices as new biohybrid bidirectional communication pathways to connect the human CNS and the external world for personalized CNS repair and regeneration. ABSTRACT Central nervous system (CNS) repair and regeneration suffer from tremendous clinical challenges due to current limitations in ...

Machine learning and legal argument [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Although the argumentation justifying decisions in particular cases has always been central to AI and Law, it has recently become a burning issue as black box machine learning approaches become prevalent. In this paper we review the understanding of legal argument that has been developed in AI and Law, and indicate the most appropriate ways in which ...

Legal Argumentation and the Nature of Law

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2023
This chapter focuses on whether any of four carefully selected contemporary theories of law—Michael Moore's theory, Joseph Raz's theory, Robert Alexy's theory, and Alf Ross's theory—have interesting implications for legal argumentation. I argue (1) that Moore's and Alexy's theories of law have interesting implications for the interpretation and ...

Targeting PLD3 Reverses the Immunosuppressive Niche by Reprogramming Tumor‐Associated Macrophages and Potentiates Antitumor Immunity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
PLD3 activates the lysosomal‐AKT‐NF‐κB axis to drive cellular senescence in macrophages, establishing an immunosuppressive TME by limiting the infiltration of cytotoxic T, NK, and NKT cells, which confers resistance to anti‐PD‐1 therapy. Abrine inhibits PLD3 expression, restoring antitumor immunity and synergizing with anti‐PD‐1 treatment.

Wavelength‐Dependent Photobiomodulation Regulates Macrophage Polarization via Mitochondrial Dynamics and Metabolic Reprogramming

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Light wavelength encodes distinct macrophage fates through mitochondrial and metabolic remodeling. Red 625 nm irradiation induces glycolysis, mitochondrial fission, and M1 polarization, whereas near‐infrared 850 nm irradiation promotes fatty acid oxidation, mitochondrial fusion, and M2 polarization.

ZER1 Restrains Pressure Overload‐Induced Cardiac Remodeling by Targeting DVL2 for Gly/N‐Degron‐Dependent Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Pressure overload suppresses cardiomyocyte ZER1, weakening CRL2Zer1‐mediated DVL2 degradation and allowing DVL2 accumulation. Elevated DVL2 activates CaMKII‐HDAC4‐MEF2C signaling, drives fetal gene reactivation, and promotes pathological remodeling.
