Coping With Production Risk: Effects of Sown Plant Diversity on the Attractiveness of Crop Insurance in Grasslands

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Increased frequency of extreme weather events, particularly droughts, threatens grassland farming by destabilizing yields and farms' economic viability. We examine, theoretically and through numerical simulations, how sown plant diversity (natural insurance) influences the attractiveness of indemnity and drought index insurance (formal ...

Scale‐up of Streptomyces species cultivations based on the morphological response to the energy dissipation rate

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Filamentous microorganisms exhibit complex morphologies that influence product formation and are affected by various bioprocess parameters. Consistent morphology is therefore essential for comparable results during scale‐up. This study investigates the scale‐up of Streptomyces species (Streptomyces spp.) cultivations from shake flasks to ...

Loops and loop clouds - a numerical approach to the worldline formalism in QED - [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
A numerical technique for calculating effective actions of electromagnetic backgrounds is proposed, which is based on the string-inspired worldline formalism. As examples, we consider scalar electrodynamics in three and four dimensions to one-loop order.

Relative Exchangeable Copper Confirms Wilson Disease and Supports Reclassification of the ATP7B p.Met665Ile Variant With Conflicting Pathogenicity Evidence

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Wilson disease (WD) is an autosomal recessive disorder of copper metabolism caused by ATP7B mutations. Diagnosis is usually straightforward in symptomatic patients, but can be challenging in children and adolescents with mild liver disease, borderline urinary copper excretion, or inconclusive genetic findings.

Auditory Hyperresponsivity in Chronic Back Pain: A Randomized Controlled Trial of Pain Reprocessing Therapy

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Heightened sensitivity to noxious stimulation is a hallmark of chronic pain. Emerging evidence suggests heightened unpleasantness to non‐noxious (eg, auditory) aversive stimulation also characterizes chronic pain, but its magnitude, neural mechanisms, and treatment modifiability remain unknown.

La Escuela de Leipzig o la justificación epistemológica del conservadurismo

open access: yesIdeas y Valores, 2023
Poco se ha escrito sobre uno de los intentos más radicales de fundamentación del conservadurismo; como son las obras de Hans Freyer, Arnold Gehlen y Helmut Schelsky  (principales representantes de la Escuela de Leipzig).
