Knowledge mapping of risk mitigation measures against vector‐borne diseases

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 24, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract A comprehensive synthesis of current evidence on surveillance, prevention and control measures for 25 selected vector‐borne diseases (VBDs) affecting animals in the EU is presented here. The assessment integrates evidence from systematic literature reviews, modelling studies, field investigations and expert judgement.

Is it time to revise the nomenclature of Leishmania?

open access: yes, 2010
Leishmania is notable for a large number of described species. Molecular phylogenies of Leishmania have increasingly suggested that the number of species could be too large.

Brain Involvement in Leishmaniasis

open access: yesCell Biochemistry and Function, Volume 44, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Leishmaniasis is a neglected tropical disease caused by infection with the protozoan parasite Leishmania and it is a significant global health problem. The disease has a wide clinical spectrum, from tegumentary leishmaniasis (TL) that encompasses cutaneous (CL), mucosal (ML) and cutaneous‐diffuse (CDL) forms, to the potentially fatal systemic ...

Visualisation of Leishmania donovani fluorescent hybrids during early stage development in the sand fly vector. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
BACKGROUND: The Leishmania protozoan parasites cause devastating human diseases. Leishmania have been considered to replicate clonally, without genetic exchange.

The Regulatory Effect of Histone Deacetylase (HDAC) 1 and 2 on iNOS, IL‐6, TNF‐α and IL‐10 Expression in Canine Macrophages Infected With Leishmania infantum

open access: yesParasite Immunology, Volume 48, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Zoonotic visceral leishmaniasis is caused by Leishmania (Leishmania) infantum. Dogs are considered the most critical urban reservoirs of L. (L.) infantum due to their high infection rate and direct transmission to humans. The parasite has developed mechanisms to evade the host's defence system by inhibiting macrophage activation, thereby ...

Development of Colombian isolates of Leishmania (Viannia) panamensis, Le. (V.) guyanensis and Le. (V.) braziliensis in the sandfly Lutzomyia intermedia (Lutz & Neiva, 1912) under experimental conditions

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 1993
The development of Colombian Leishmania species of the subgenus Viannia in Lutzomyia intermedia was similar to that observed with Brazilian Le. (V.) braziliensis: colonization of the pylorus by paramastigotes; promastigotes in the midgut and massive ...

Stunning Intricacies of RNA Editing Complexes RECC, RESC, and REH2C: Functional Organization, Developmental Regulation, and Evolutionary History in Kinetoplastid Protists

open access: yesWIREs RNA, Volume 17, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
U‐indel RNA editing targets mRNA:gRNA duplexes through three key complexes that collectively govern assembly, specificity, catalysis, and developmental regulation. Modern tools, including artificial intelligence, analyze the organization, dynamics, and evolution of the remarkable holo‐editosome, opening new avenues in RNA biology and therapy.
