Nano‐ and Micro‐Sized Solid Materials Used as Antiviral Agents

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Due to the rise of viral infections in humans and possible viral outbreaks, the use of nano‐ or micro‐sized materials as antiviral agents is rapidly increasing. This review explores their antiviral properties against RNA and DNA viruses, either as a prevention or a treatment tool, by delving into their mechanisms of action and how to properly assess ...

FAPα+ Macrophages Orchestrate Immune Evasion in Multiple Myeloma by Dual Regulation of PD‐L1 and T Cell Senescence

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Fibroblast activation protein alpha‐positive (FAPα+) macrophages, a distinct subset of multiple myeloma (MM)‐associated macrophages, drive immune evasion in MM through multi‐faceted mechanisms. FAPα physically interacts with vimentin (VIM) and triggers its phosphorylation at the S72 residue, which in turn induces PD‐L1 transcription. Additionally, FAPα

The zebrafish xenograft platform-A novel tool for modeling KSHV-associated diseases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Kaposi\u27s sarcoma associated-herpesvirus (KSHV, also known as human herpesvirus-8) is a gammaherpesvirus that establishes life-long infection in human B lymphocytes.

Macaques as model hosts for studies of HIV-1 infection

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2013
Increasing evidence indicates that the host range of primate lentiviruses is in part determined by their ability to counteract innate restriction factors that are effectors of the type 1 interferon (IFN-1) response.

The Osteoblastic Microenvironment Determines the Fate of Breast Cancer Cells Disseminated in the Bone Marrow

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study revealed how the osteoblastic microenvironment determines the fate of cancer cells disseminated in bone, with a focus on whether they colonize, reside in quiescence, or reactivate from dormancy. Targeting integrin signaling may offer promising strategies for preventing quiescent cancer cells reactivation and bone colonization.

The role of gamma-synuclein in cocaine-induced behaviour in rats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The aim of this study was to investigate the role of γ-synuclein in the rewarding effects of chronic cocaine administration and its putative interaction with the dopamine transporter (DAT).

Lentiviruses as Vectors for CNS Diseases

open access: green, 2002
During the past decade, mutations implicated in familial forms of CNS diseases have been identified (MARTIN 1995). The subsequent development of transgenic mouse models (AGUZZI et al. 1996), the use of gene-chip technology (SERAFINI 1999) and the development of functional imaging (PICCINI et al.

Comprehensive Profiling of N6‐methyladnosine (m6A) Readouts Reveals Novel m6A Readers That Regulate Human Embryonic Stem Cell Differentiation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This research deciphers the m6A transcriptome by profiling its sites and functional readout effects: from mRNA stability, translation to alternative splicing, across five different cell types. Machine learning model identifies novel m6A‐binding proteins DDX6 and FXR2 and novel m6A reader proteins FUBP3 and L1TD1.
