Redescripción de la morfología larval externa de dos especies del grupo de Leptodactylus fuscus (Anura, Leptodactylidae) [PDF]

open access: yesPhyllomedusa: Journal of Herpetology, 2005
The larvae of Leptodactylus gracilis (D’Orbigny y Bibron, 1840) and L. mystacinus Bumeister, 1861 are re-described and compared with previous descriptions noting intraspecific variation in oral disccharacteristics (arrangement of papillae and rows of ...

Predator-prey: predation strategies of Leptodactylus macrosternum and defensive behavior of Leptodactylus fuscus

open access: yesActa Brasiliensis, 2022
Congeneric predation between two Leptodactylus species was recorded and information was collected on the predation strategy of L. macrosternum and the defensive behavior and distress call of L. fuscus. The entire predation event lasted about 90 min and ended when predator tore integument of the prey's ventral region, facilitating swallowing.

First record of Astathelohania contejeani (Henneguy, 1892) in the narrow-clawed crayfish Pontastacus leptodactylus (Eschscholtz, 1823) from Belarus

open access: yesOceanological and Hydrobiological Studies
Porcelain disease, caused by the parasite Astathelohania contejeani, is a fatal disease for freshwater crayfish. Previously published data provide information on the occurrence of A. contejeani in various crayfish species. However, its prevalence in host

Interactive effects between burrowing crayfish and flow conditions increase riverbank erosion: A flume experiment

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 51, Issue 5, May 2026.
Biological and geomorphic effects have been treated independently in fluvial geomorphology. Flume experiments with burrowing crayfish show that interactions between these drivers do more geomorphic work than the sum of their maximum independent parts combined, meaning total biogeomorphic effects to rivers are likely underestimated.

Genome‐Wide Characterization of Sex‐Linked Regions in the Sangzhi Horned Toad (Boulenophrys sangzhiensis) Reveals Complex Sex Determination Mechanisms

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 26, Issue 3, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Sex chromosomes in amphibians exhibit substantial variability and often remain largely homomorphic, providing a powerful system for studying sex determination. The Sangzhi horned toad (Boulenophrys sangzhiensis) is an ideal model, but limited genomic resources have hindered insights into sex determination mechanisms.
