Analysis of the lactic acid bacteria microflora in traditional Caucasus cow's milk cheeses [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Biological Sciences, 2009
A total of 157 lactic acid bacteria (LAB) were isolated from three hand-made cheeses taken from different households in the region of the Caucasus Mountains. The cheeses were manufactured from cow's milk without the addition of a starter culture.

Phylogenomic analysis of the genus Leuconostoc

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2022
Leuconostoc is a genus of saccharolytic heterofermentative lactic acid bacteria that inhabit plant-derived matrices and a variety of fermented foods (dairy products, dough, milk, vegetables, and meats), contributing to desired fermentation processes or ...

Diversity recovery and probiotic shift of gastric microbiota in functional dyspepsia patients after Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2023
The effects of Helicobacter pylori eradication on gastric mucosa-colonizing microbes in patients with functional dyspepsia (FD) remain unclear. Here, we explored microbial variation induced by H. pylori infection and eradication treatment in FD patients.

Leuconostoc mesenteroides subsp. suionicum subsp. nov. [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2012
Strains LMG 8159 and LMG 11499 were reclassified by a polyphasic approach, including 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, 16S–23S rRNA intergenic spacer (IGS) sequence analysis, (GTG)5-PCR fingerprinting, RAPD fingerprinting, fatty acid methyl ester analysis and an analysis of phenotypic features using API 50 CH. The two strains were closely related to the

Crystalline D-Mannitol:NAD Oxidoreductase from Leuconostoc mesenteroides

open access: yesAgricultural and Biological Chemistry, 1968
The crystalline d-mannitol dehyrogenase (d-mannitol:NAD oxidoreductase, EC 1.1.1.67) catalyzed the reversible reduction of d-fructose to d-mannitol. d-Sorbitol was oxidized only at the rate of 4% of the activity for d-mannitol. The enzyme was inactive for all of four pentitols and their corresponding 2-ketopentoses.

Proteolytic processing of dextransucrase ofLeuconostoc mesenteroides [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 1999
Various dextransucrase molecular mass forms found in enzyme preparations may sometimes be products of proteolytic activity. Extracellular protease in Leuconostoc mesenteroides strains NRRL B-512F and B-512FMC dextransucrase preparations was identified.

Optimization of electrotransformation conditions for Leuconostoc mesenteroides subsp. mesenteroides ATCC8293. [PDF]

open access: yesLetters in applied microbiology, 2013
To establish an efficient genetic transformation protocol for Leuconostoc species, methods for competent-cell preparation and electroporation conditions were optimized.Leuconostoc mesenteroides subsp. mesenteroides ATCC8293 cells were sequentially treated with penicillin G and lysozyme, and the plasmid pLeuCM was subsequently transformed into the cells.
