Understanding lightning leaders [PDF]
a lightning flash is defined by the initiation and multiple development of leaders. But lightning leaders are still poorly understood. Since most of my atmospheric electricity has been focused on lightning that means that it has been devoted to ...

New mechanism for lightning initiation [PDF]
This is the final report of a three-year, Laboratory-Directed Research and Development (LDRD) project at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). To distinguish radio-frequency (rf) signals generated by lightning from the electromagnetic pulse produced by a nuclear explosion, it is necessary to understand the fundamental nature of thunderstorm ...

Numerical Simulation of Building Geometry's Influence on Attachment Process of Upward Leader
High-rise buildings not only increase urban land use efficiency, but also facilitate the attainment of conditions required for lightning leader initiation due to enhanced electric field distortion at the top, thereby increase lightning activity ...

The Similarity of the Action of Franklin and ESE Lightning Rods under Natural Conditions
In the lightning rods categorized as Early Streamer Emission (ESE) types, an intermittent voltage impulse is applied to the lightning rod to modulate the electric field at its tip in an attempt to speed up the initiation of a connecting leader from the ...

Interferometric Imaging of Lightning Initiation through LOFAR: Uncovering the Spontaneous and Not-So-Spontaneous Nature of Lightning Initiation in 3D [PDF]
With recent advances in instrumentation and the continued development and refinement of analytical methods, the hindrances that previously existed in uncovering the physical processes governing the behavior of lightning are diminishing.

MiR‐513a promotes human erythroid differentiation by modulating c‐Jun
During early human erythropoiesis, miR‐513a promoted erythroid differentiation in primary human CD34+ hematopoietic stem‐progenitor cells and human TF‐1 erythroleukemic cells by indirectly decreasing c‐Jun and phospho‐c‐Jun expression, which are associated with increased GATA1 expression.

Modeling the Probability of Dry Lightning‐Induced Wildfires in Tasmania: A Machine Learning Approach
Dry lightning is a prevalent episodic natural ignition source for wildfires, particularly in remote regions where such fires can escalate into uncontrollable events, burning extensive areas.

Atomistic Mechanisms Triggered by Joule Heating Effects in Metallic Cu‐Bi Nanowires for Spintronics
Bi doped metallic Cu nanowires are promising for spintronics thanks to the stabilization of a giant spin Hall effect. However, heat resulting from current injection forces Bi to leave solution, forcing segregation into monoatomic decorations which evolve into coherent crystalline aggregates.

Glow corona discharges and their effect on lightning attachment: Revisited [PDF]
Previous studies in the literature have suggested that glow corona discharges could be potentially used to control the frequency of lightning flashes to grounded objects.
