A 3D Numerical Model to Estimate Lightning Types for PyroCb Thundercloud

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Pyrocumulonimbus (pyroCb) thunderclouds, produced from extreme bushfires, can initiate frequent cloud-to-ground (CG) lightning strikes containing extended continuing currents.

Stromal‐Derived IL‐8 Promotes M2 Macrophage Polarization via the RhoA/MRTF‐A/SRF Transcriptional Axis to Impair CD8+ T Cell Cytotoxicity in Lung Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In the recondite pulmonary neoplastic milieu, DESMIN+ cancer‐associated fibroblasts function as the paramount stromal source of IL‐8, precipitating a deleterious immunological metamorphosis by engaging CXCR2 receptors on the myeloid lineage. This paracrine stimulus triggers a mechanotransduction cascade characterized by RhoA‐dependent actin ...

Extreme Polaritonic Interactions in a Room‐Temperature Designable Sub‐Nanocavity Quantum Electrodynamic Platform

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A nanoparticle‐cluster‐on‐mirror (NPcoM) serves as a functionally deterministic sub‐nanocavity that emulates picocavities, enabling extreme light–matter interactions and polaritonic phenomena. ABSTRACT Pushing nanoscale optical confinement to its ultimate limits defines the regime of nano‐cavity quantum electrodynamics (nano‐cQED), where light‐matter ...

Effect of Mountain Terrain near Lightning Channels on Electric Fields at Sprite Halos Initiation Region

open access: yesAtmosphere
The electric fields generated by lightning discharges propagate upward and couple with the lower ionosphere, triggering various mesospheric optical emissions.

Initial Geostationary Lightning Mapper Observations [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2019
AbstractThe Geostationary Lightning Mapper (GLM) continuously observes lightning throughout a near‐hemispheric field of view, capturing spatiotemporal variability on unprecedented scales. This study documents GLM lightning distributions during the initial 9 months in the operational Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite‐East position ...

MiR‐940 Suppresses Ferroptosis by Controlling Expression of Key Regulatory Genes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A CRISPR‐based screening identified miR‐940 as a critical suppressor of ferroptosis in cancer. By coordinating the downregulation of pro‐ferroptotic genes with the upregulation of GPX4, miR‐940 establishes a regulatory network that protects against ferroptosis and correlates with poor clinical outcomes in distinct cancer entities.

Multi-stroke positive cloud-to-ground lightning sharing the same channel observed with a VHF broadband interferometer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
In the same lightning flash, whose usual duration is less than a second, there can be multiple negative cloud-to-ground strokes with different terminations or following a preexisting channel to the ground.

Stem Cell Differentiation Disperses Transcriptional Clusters via a Conserved Surface‐Condensate Trajectory

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation follows a conserved surface condensate trajectory: H3K27ac super enhancers nucleate large RNA polymerase II clusters that grow and unfold before transcriptional activity disperses them. This work reveals how biophysical forces at enhancer surfaces dynamically build and dismantle stem cell transcription hubs, reshaping cell ...
