Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Data Systematization and Preliminary Analysis of Accidental Oil and Petroleum Product Spills in the Russian Arctic and Far North

open access: yesResources
The effects of climate change, such as melting ice and permafrost in northern and Arctic regions, raise serious concerns about the risk of accidents at oil production, transportation, and storage facilities.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Emission line profiles and X-ray observations of broad and narrow line Seyfert 1 galaxies

open access: yes, 2011
Narrow Line Seyfert 1 galaxies represent a distinct category in the larger family of Type 1 Active Galactic Nuclei. The occurrence of emission line profiles not broader than 2000 km/s, combined with luminosity estimates comparable to those of their broad

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

The Scale Model Room Approach to Test the Performance of Airtight Membranes to Control Indoor Radon Levels and Radiation Exposure

open access: yesAtmosphere
Indoor radon is one of the most significant contributors to lung cancer after smoking. Mitigation strategies based on protecting buildings with radon barrier materials, combined with home ventilation or room pressurization, are regularly used.

Influence of Sand Content in Yili Loess on the Growth of Ecological Restoration Plants [PDF]

open access: yes长江科学院院报
To investigate the effect of sand content on the growth of slope ecological restoration plants, we used the Analytic Hierarchy Process to select suitable plant species and then conducted planting experiment with sand added in Yili loess slopes.

Broad line emission from iron K- and L-shell transitions in the active galaxy 1H 0707-495

open access: yes, 2009
Since the 1995 discovery of the broad iron K-line emission from the Seyfert galaxy MCG-6-30-15 (ref. 1), broad iron K lines have been found in emission from several other Seyfert galaxies, from accreting stellar-mass black holes and even from accreting ...
