The MOV10 Helicase Inhibits LINE-1 Mobility [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2013
LINE-1 (long interspersed element 1) is an autonomous non-long terminal repeat retrotransposon. Its replication often causes mutation and rearrangement of host genomic DNA. Accordingly, host cells have evolved mechanisms to control LINE-1 mobility. Here, we report that a helicase named MOV10 effectively suppresses LINE-1 transposition.

LINE-1 methylation in leukocyte DNA, interaction with phosphatidylethanolamine N-methyltransferase variants and bladder cancer risk [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
BACKGROUND: Aberrant global DNA methylation is shown to increase cancer risk. LINE-1 has been proven a measure of global DNA methylation. The objectives of this study were to assess the association between LINE-1 methylation level and bladder cancer risk

An intronic LINE-1 regulates IFNAR1 expression in human immune cells

open access: yesMobile DNA, 2023
Background Despite their origins as selfish parasitic sequences, some transposons in the human genome have been co-opted to serve as regulatory elements, contributing to the evolution of transcriptional networks.

Regulation of LINE-1 in mammals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Transposable elements (TEs) are mobile DNA elements that represent almost half of the human genome. Transposition of TEs has been implicated as a source of genome evolution and acquisition of new traits but also as an origin of diseases.

Effects of Particulate Matter on Genomic DNA Methylation Content and iNOS Promoter Methylation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background: Altered patterns of gene expression mediate the effects of particulate matter (PM) on human health, but mechanisms through which PM modifies gene expression are largely undetermined. Objectives We aimed at identifying short- and long-term ...

Heavy Metals Stimulate Human LINE-1 Retrotransposition [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 2005
L1 and Alu elements are among the most active retroposons (mobile elements) in the human genome. Several human diseases, including certain forms of breast cancer and leukemia, are associated with L1 and Alu insertions in functionally important areas of the genome.

Observed deformation behavior of Gongbei Tunnel of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge during construction

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2020
The excavation of shallow buried tunnels with super-large section in coastal water-rich strata with complex geological conditions faces a lot of risks. The surrounding soil is easy to be disturbed during excavation, causing the ground deformation.

Evaluating LINE-1 methylation in cleft lip tissues and its association with early pregnancy exposures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Aim: To pilot investigation of methylation of long interspersed nucleotide element-1 in lip tissues from infants with nonsyndromic cleft lip, and its association with maternal periconceptional exposures. Methods: The lateral and medial sides of the cleft

Methylation of retrotransposon Line-1 in atherosclerosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
DNA methylation is one of the perspective but insufficiently studied epigenetic mechanisms which can be involved in atherosclerosis and related cardiovascular disease. Global DNA methylation estimated by the methylation level of retrotransposon LINE-1 in
