Line following terrestrial insect biobots
2012 Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2012The present day technology falls short in offering centimeter scale mobile robots that can function effectively under unknown and dynamic environmental conditions. Insects, on the other hand, exhibit an unmatched ability to navigate through a wide variety of environments and overcome perturbations by successfully maintaining control and stability.

Line thinning by line following
Pattern Recognition Letters, 1988Abstract A line following algorithm is presented as a means to perform line thinning on elongated figures. The method is faster than conventional thinning algorithms and not as sensitive to noise. It can be useful for other applications also.

An Optimal Line Following Algorithm
IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 1981An algorithm is described for optimal following of the lines in digitized TV pictures. Initially, the picture is subjected to an edge detection operation resulting in short edge-line pieces (strokes). The bifurcation points of the lines in the picture are detected on the basis of variances in stroke angles.

Line estimation for a line-following mobile robot
2015 9th International Conference on Electrical and Electronics Engineering (ELECO), 2015In this study, the coordinate of the line position for a differential drive line-following mobile robot is estimated by using the Minimum Variance Unbiased Estimator. Using the sensor data as an observation data and coordinates of sensors, a linear model for Minimum Variance Unbiased Estimator is constructed.
