Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

MVQTLCIM: composite interval mapping of multivariate traits in a hybrid F1 population of outbred species

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics, 2017
Background With the plummeting cost of the next-generation sequencing technologies, high-density genetic linkage maps could be constructed in a forest hybrid F1 population. However, based on such genetic maps, quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping cannot

Implication of the genetic structure of Theobroma cacao for breeding strategies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Diversity studies have been made by numerous authors using several kind of descriptors: morphological, enzymatic, molecular. A clear classification is difficult to obtain due to several reasons: - the genetic mixing happened during the three last ...

The Use of SNP Markers for Linkage Mapping in Diploid and Tetraploid Peanuts

open access: yesG3: Genes, Genomes, Genetics, 2013
Single nucleotide polymorphic markers (SNPs) are attractive for use in genetic mapping and marker-assisted breeding because they can be scored in parallel assays at favorable costs.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

A Dense Linkage Map of Lake Victoria Cichlids Improved the Pundamilia Genome Assembly and Revealed a Major QTL for Sex-Determination

open access: yesG3: Genes, Genomes, Genetics, 2018
Genetic linkage maps are essential for comparative genomics, high quality genome sequence assembly and fine scale quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping.

SNP discovery and linkage mapping in Nicotiana [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
only availableWe are developing a genetic linkage map in F2 populations descended from a cross between Nicotiana plumbaginafolia and N. longiflora as well as the reciprocal cross. We are using an interspecific cross because is an outbreeder and is a self-

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Mapping genes governing flower architecture and pollen development in a double mutant population of carrot

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2014
A linkage map of carrot (Daucus carota L.) was developed in order to study reproductive traits. The F2 mapping population derived from an initial cross between a yellow leaf (yel) chlorophyll mutant and a compressed lamina (cola) mutant with unique ...
