Poly(hydroxyalkanoate) production by Cupriavidus necator from fatty waste can be enhanced by phaZ1 inactivation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
PHA production from waste oils or fats requires microorganisms that should be both excellent PHA producers and equipped with enzymatic activities allowing hydrolysation of triglycerides.

Homeostasis of Gut Microbiota Protects against Susceptibility to Fungal Pneumonia

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Fungal pneumonia induces inflammation, shown by heightened IL‐6, IL‐1β, TNF‐α levels and a growth in Staphylococcus in the alveolar flora. The gut microbiota, acting through the gut‐lung axis via blood, impacts fungal pneumonia susceptibility by altering lung metabolism and inflammatory responses.

Optimization of lipase entrapment in alginate gel bead for palm olein hydrolysis [PDF]

open access: yesSongklanakarin Journal of Science and Technology (SJST), 2007
Lipase from Pseudomonas sp. was entrapped by drop-wise addition of an aqueous mixture of alginate and the biocatalyst to hardening solution of CaCl2 for the purpose of palm olein hydrolysis.

HIDROLISIS ENZIMATIS STEARIN SAWIT MENJADI MONOGLISERIDA OLEH LIPASE DARI Rhizomucor miehei DAN PANKREAS (Enzymatic Hydrolysis of Palm Stearin to Produce Monoglyceride by Lipase from Rhizomucor miehei and Pancreatic)

open access: yesAgritech, 2013
The objectives of the research were to evaluate the effect of the pH, ratio of substrate:phospate buffer, and reaction time on the enzymatic hydrolysis of palm stearin to obtain monoglyceride by R. miehei and pancreatic lipases.

Pigment Epithelium‐Derived Factor Deficiency Impairs Hippocampal Glutamate Homeostasis and Cognitive Function by Downregulating Astrocytic GLT‐1

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The chronic glutamate‐induced excitotoxicity hypothesis has profoundly informed the therapeutic strategies employed in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). This study shows pigment epithelium‐derived factor (PEDF) regulates astrocytic glutamate transporter‐1 (GLT‐1)‐mediated glutamate homeostasis and cognition. Reduced PEDF correlates with lower Mini‐Mental State

The –514 polymorphism in the hepatic lipase gene (LIPC) does not influence androgen-mediated stimulation of hepatic lipase activity

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1998
The –514T allele of hepatic lipase is associated with increased high density lipoprotein-cholesterol levels in men, but not in women. This observation suggests that the –514C to T polymorphism may diminish the response of hepatic lipase to androgens.

Diagnosis of pancreatic disease in feline platynosomosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Objectives: Platynosomum species are cat-specific parasitic trematodes that parasitize the biliary ducts and gall bladder. Due to the common connection to the major duodenal papilla of the pancreas and common bile ducts in addition to the periductal ...

Acidosis Forces Fatty Acid Uptake and Metabolism in Cancer Cells Regardless of Genotype

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that biological acidosis, commonly observed in tumors and ischemic conditions, actively promotes the protonation of fatty acids, thereby facilitating the uptake of their neutral forms. Consequently, the preference for lipid metabolism in acid‐exposed cells does not arise from genetic reprogramming that prioritizes lipids as the ...

Hepatic triacylglycerol lipase activities after induction of diabetes and administration of insulin or glucagon.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1982
Triacylglycerol lipase activities of homogenates and subcellular fractions of rat liver were measured under optimal conditions at pH 7.5 using emulsified tri[1-14C]oleoylglycerol as substrate.

Human milk lipases. I. Serum-stimulated lipase

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1974
Lipase activity has previously been demonstrated in human milk. This study shows that there are two separate triglyceride lipases in human milk. One is mainly in the skim milk and is stimulated by bile salts; the other is mainly in the cream and is inhibited by bile salts but stimulated by serum.
