Involvement of GPx4-Regulated Lipid Peroxidation in Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Pathogenesis

open access: yesJournal of Immunology, 2019
Key Points Reduced GPx4 and increased lipid peroxidation are exhibited in IPF lung fibroblasts. Lipid peroxidation is involved in lung fibrosis development through TGF-β signaling.

Antioxidant and Anti‐Senescence Polyvinyl Alcohol‐Gallic Acid Supramolecular Hydrogels for Stem Cell Culture

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The PVA‐GA hydrogel is formed through hydrogen bonding between PVA hydroxyl groups and GA galloyl units, enabling sustainable GA release and its extended biological activity. The hydrogel scavenges ROS to reduce oxidative stress, preventing mitochondrial damage from excessive ROS, mitigating hADSC senescence, and preserving VEGF secretion, offering a ...

Nimesulide limits kainate-induced oxidative damage in the rat hippocampus [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Pharmacology 390(3): 295-298 (2000), 2007
Kainate induces a marked expression of cyclooxygenase-2 after its systemic administration. Because cyclooxygenase-2 activity is associated to the production of reactive oxygen species, we investigated the effects of nimesulide, a selective cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor, on kainate-induced in vivo oxidative damage in the rat hippocampus.

“Therapies Through Gut:” Targeted Drug Delivery for Non‐Gastrointestinal Diseases by Oral Administration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration of the mechanism of targeted delivery of nanoparticles including 1) paracellular, 2) endolysosomal escape, 3) receptor mediated endocytosis, and 4) M cell mediated transport for non‐GI diseases by oral administration such as atherosclerosis, cancer, diabetes, and brain diseases. Abstract Oral drug delivery is a promising approach

Disruption of a Maize 9-Lipoxygenase Results in Increased Resistance to Fungal Pathogens and Reduced Levels of Contamination with Mycotoxin Fumonisin

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, 2007
Plant oxylipins, produced via the lipoxygenase (LOX) pathway, function as signals in defense and development. In fungi, oxylipins are potent regulators of mycotoxin biosynthesis and sporogenesis.

Nitric oxide and lipid peroxidation

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Bioenergetics, 1999
Nitric oxide can both promote and inhibit lipid peroxidation. By itself, nitric oxide acts as a potent inhibitor of the lipid peroxidation chain reaction by scavenging propagatory lipid peroxyl radicals. In addition, nitric oxide can also inhibit many potential initiators of lipid peroxidation, such as peroxidase enzymes.

Radiation‐Resistant Bacteria Deinococcus radiodurans‐Derived Extracellular Vesicles as Potential Radioprotectors

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Deinococcus radiodurans‐derived extracellular vesicles (R1‐EVs) provide radioprotection against total‐body irradiation‐induced acute radiation syndrome in mice. R1‐EVs mitigate oxidative damage by scavenging free radicals, promoting intestinal repair, enhancing hematopoietic function, and modulating immune responses. This study highlights the potential

Time course of oxidative damage in different brain regions following transient cerebral ischemia in gerbils [PDF]

open access: yesNeuroscience Research 41(3): 233-241 (2001), 2007
The time course of oxidative damage in different brain regions was investigated in the gerbil model of transient cerebral ischemia. Animals were subjected to both common carotid arteries occlusion for 5 min. After the end of ischemia and at different reperfusion times (2, 6, 12, 24, 48, 72, 96 h and 7 days), markers of lipid peroxidation, reduced and ...

Molecular dynamics study of the competitive binding of hydrogen peroxide and water molecules with the DNA phosphate groups [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
The hydrogen peroxide is present in the living cell at small concentrations that increase under the action of the heavy ion beams in the process of anticancer therapy. The interactions of hydrogen peroxide with DNA, proteins and other biological molecules are poorly understood.

Distribution of lipids in non-lamellar phases of their mixtures [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We consider a model of lipids in which a head group, characterized by its volume, is attached to two flexible tails of equal length. The phase diagram of the anhydrous lipid is obtained within self-consistent field theory, and displays, as a function of lipid architecture, a progression of phases: body-centered cubic, hexagonal, gyroid, and lamellar ...
