Synthesis and self-assembly of lipid (DMPC)-conjugated gold nanoparticles

open access: yes, 2007
Bio-conjugated nanomaterials play a promising role in the development of novel supramolecular structures, molecular machines, and biosensing devices. In this study, lipid-conjugated gold nanoparticles were synthesized and allowed to form a self-assembled

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Structure analysis of biologically important prokaryotic glycopolymers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Of the many post-translational modifications organisms can undertake, glycosylation is the most prevalent and the most diverse. The research in this thesis focuses on the structural characterisation of glycosylation in two classes of glycopolymer (

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Structural determinants of lipid specificity within Ups/PRELI lipid transfer proteins

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
The Ups/PRELI family mediates intramitochondrial lipid distribution and synthesis by shuttling phospholipids between both mitochondrial membranes. Here the authors combine X-ray crystallography, MD simulations and yeast genetic screens and identify ...

Is ABCA1 a lipid transfer protein?

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2018
ABCA1 functions as a lipid transporter because it mediates the transfer of cellular phospholipid (PL) and free (unesterified) cholesterol (FC) to apoA-I and related proteins present in the extracellular medium.

Membrane contact sites - an interesting species, an interesting mix [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this issue of EMBO reports, Loewen and colleagues reveal a role for plasma membrane–endoplasmic reticulum contact sites in regulating phosphatidylcholine synthesis in budding ...

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Role of adipose differentiation-related protein in lung surfactant production: a reassessment

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2006
Based on data developed with the use of isolated lipid droplets from neonatal rat lung lipofibroblasts, we speculated previously that the droplet coat protein, adipose differentiation-related protein (ADFP), mediated the transfer of lipids into type 2 ...

Transcriptional profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles from prebiopsy prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...
