Chronic Low‐Dose Unsymmetrical Dimethylhydrazine Exposure in Rats: Multiorgan Mechanisms and Biomarker Identification

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, Volume 46, Issue 6, Page 1987-2002, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine (UDMH), a highly toxic rocket propellant with known multiorgan effects, requires urgent characterization of its chronic low‐dose toxicity. Using an integrated approach including exploratory transcriptomics (n = 3/group) and metabolomic (n = 4/group) approaches in male Sprague–Dawley rats exposed to high‐dose ...

DAMP Laden Extracellular Vesicles From the Airways of Patients With Severe SARS‐CoV‐2 Respiratory Infection Compromise Inflammation and Cellular Metabolism

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 15, Issue 6, June 2026.
Extracellular vesicles from severe COVID‐19 airways carry depleted miRNAs and elevated DAMPs, reprogramming monocytes toward senescence, impaired metabolism, and predominantly reduced cytokine responses. However, they drive excess IL‐8 production, amplifying neutrophil recruitment and dysfunctional inflammation across the respiratory tract.

Impact of Isolation Techniques on the Content of Small Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 15, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT An important topic of discussion amongst the extracellular vesicle (EV) research field is which genetic materials are considered true constituents of EV cargo. What were once regarded as non‐EV components have now evolved to be potentially essential to EV composition, serving as key mediators in communication.

Extracellular Vesicles as Enabling Biomarkers for New Approach Methodologies to Support the US Food and Drug Administration Modernization Act 3.0

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 15, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT The FDA Modernization Act 3.0 represents a pivotal shift in biomedical research by formally removing the requirement for animal testing and enabling regulatory acceptance of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs). This transition creates an urgent need for robust, human‐relevant biomarkers that can anchor NAM‐generated data within regulatory ...
